I think you'll find "Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway" worth the $20 per

I happened to see an Internet ad for it the other day or I wouldn't have had any idea it was out. I also didn't know that the show closed on Broadway a few weeks ago. Regardless, it's in theaters nationwide, but very, very briefly. If you live in a city with at least 50,000 people, you'll probably find that it's playing in your town but that the last show is tomorrow at 1 pm. (And double-check, because some theaters are playing the Chris Columbus version; sneaky, sneaky). This version is compiled from two separate performances, including the very last one.

I went to see the showing this afternoon. It really was a lot like seeing it on Broadway only with closeups, so it was considerably easier to follow the action. Also, it seems like the final cast were the best singers of all; anyway, everybody could belt. The original cast came back for the final bow, which was also nice. The movie's 2 hrs 45 minutes, but with a 10 minute intermission. And if you aren't able to take your own pulse, this makes an adequate substitute, as if you aren't crying by the end, you'll know you're deceased.
