Disturbing Dreams Thread
OK, Xen, I want to know about that motif in your dreams. What was the context? How did the dream start? Has it occurred in more than one dream?

Get on the couch, boy, it's time to analyze your subconscious!

1. LOL
*gets on the couch and sprawls out*

I have seen it a few times...

Usually just out of nowhere.. *gush!*

I had always attributed it to various horror movies....

I've had it happen as waking hallucinations a few times. (that happens to me on occasion)

3. Out of nowhere?
Was there any theme to the dreams?

Or like, you're just walking along, and suddenly there it is?

Were you ever able to see yourself in those dreams--who you were with, what you were wearing, anything like that?

7. Usually just randomly in another nightmare..
like one where I was standing in a house and a demon melted up through the floor and made me some offer about power and he disappeared and *splash* up from the ground come a bubblin crude....

9. An offer about power, huh?
So this demon appeared...he made an offer about power.

Then came the disturbing image.

Could it have been your subconscious reminding you *where accepting power can lead*? In other words, power=responsibility=Rump Of Skunk And Madness?

Does that seem to make intuitive sense?

:loveya:

I knew we'd get somewhere if we looked at that image.

Now, what other dreams has it come up in? And can you ever discren the features of the landscape where it occurs? Or what you are wearing?

but I seem to recall walking through a forest and having it start from the ground...

then out of all the trees...

Was it a random forest? What was going on in your life at the time?

Also, what other recurring images do you get in your dreams?

18. It's a bit hard to say...
it depends a lot.

The absolute most common theme (up until moving here) was (in order of popularity) skulls, blood and demons.

I honestly cannot remember when it was that I had the forest dream. It was a while ago.

19. What was the context of the skulls?
I know that the blood was in the context of the blood geyser at least sometimes. In what context did skulls appear?

20. Again it depends on the dream and the scenery..
usually just in the background, symbolism here and there on the walls.

It all depends.

Do the skulls seem to be frightening, or are they just kinda' there?

23. That's interesting!
That could actually be significant; for most people, of course, the skull is an inherently frightening symbol. That it pops up in a neutral way, as decor, is actually rather interesting.

Where are you when it happens? In the kidnapping dreams, are you indoors or outdoors? What do the kidnappers do? Do they stuff you into the trunk of a car?

2. I had a two really weird dreams.
2 nights in a row. In one I was running away from a dinosaur with jesus. The other I met Hitler and he told me I was an annoying little girl, and then I spit on him, then I remembered it's probably not a good idea to spit on Hitler, and then I woke up.

 Wonder what they mean.

5. Hi...I'm Mr. Business.
I had a waking dream last year. I started to go downstairs, responding to a "voice" I though I heard in my kitchen. At this point, I fell back asleep (for real) and dreamed I went down to the kitchen. I then looked around and asked "who called me?"

At which point I notice the cabinet where I keep my catfood had several squares on it's front that looked a little like a face.

The cabinet then spoke to me:

"Hi Teaser. I'm Mr. Business!"

"I am the one true God."

And to prove it, it made the lazy susan rotate without any outside interference.

A few nights later I dreamt there were little green aliens on dinner plates floating around my living room.

10. I always have the same one
I am watching the kids at the pre-school at which I once worked playing in the small grassy field adjacent to the parking lot. The field is surrounded by several hundred feet of tall grass (it really is, it's been an undeveloped construction lot for a decade).

Suddenly, up from the tall grass rears an enormous black bear. The kids don't see it, but I do. I yell for the kids to high-tail it into the school and put myself between the bear and the, now screaming and running, children.

The bear charges right towards me.

The bear rears up again and swipes me across the face and chest.

I lay there in the grass, uable to move, as the bear lunges towards the building with the kids, all clumped and terrified, at the entrance.

I feel my heart slow, then stop, and I die.

It's always the same, even when I realize it's the dream and try to change the outcome.

I usually wake up dripping in sweat with an adrenaline surge.

It happens about once a week.

14. Sounds to me...
like basic fear of being unable to protect someone else from something.

It sounds like you take your responsibilities very seriously, and are frightened of being overwhelmed by something. Do you usually have it during stressful times?

16. no stress doesn't appear to be a factor
I've tracked the dreams in my journal and they seem to pop up irrespective of the perceived stress level in my life.

The fear of helplessness was clear to me too, but it doens't explain the identical nature of the experience. And I am talking like 300 or 400 times I've had this dream.

The only other variation I've had, and it was only once that I recorded it, the bear was replaced with a rattlesnake, and I was bitten. The outcome was the same though.

All I can see is the helplessness/inability to protect the kids. Unless possibly you got killed by a bear in a former life.

36. Disturbing but interesting
I had this dream back when I was a runner in high school.
I dreamed that I was a serious competitor in a big race, maybe the Olympic trials or something. As usual, I was nervous. I asked for guidance from a priest (not Catholic but respectful of them), but even as I was talking to him, I could see that he was really a demon. I still said "Father, what must I do to win this race?"
"You must have patience, my child. That is what you really need." he said.
"But I do have patience, more than anyone else in the world." I replied.
"That is true, but you are also very impatience as well. That is the problem with you, you see. You are two things. You are both infinitely good and infinitely evil. Humans can not exist as both." he said.
The next day, I went to run the race. To my suprise, there were two others of me. I ran hard and they both ran by my side. I won, but collapsed at the finish line. The EMTs rushed to me, my two other selves stood beside me looking at me.
My two other selves were my good self and my evil self. They referred to me as "My name in the flesh". They both loved me even despite their fundamental opposition. When they asked whther I would live or not they replied "We don't know. That is yet to be seen."
