The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Sun 9/28/2008)
Evening V

There was light in the sky but no twilight.
The south wind battered the trees and houses.
Road signs misinterpreted the highway.
A business caved in – people buried alive.

But you were safe with your tea and whiskey,
Watching the storm from your place near the glass,
Recounting like an elder the tribal catastrophes,
Current, previous, last. All this in your robe –
Wrists protruding, fingers stained by smoke.

Where do birds sleep in weather like this?
Dissolve in the rain or enter some fold of the sky?
I think it happened on an evening like this
The prodigal decided it was time.

Stuart Dischell
