I shall hunt down and murder the "craftsman" who built my bathroom. |
|
Grumble. Rage. Grumble. Too tired to actually kill anybody. :D
Pulling up the vinyl floor and old shower, I was delighted to find that with a one-piece goddamn shower pan, with only one hole in it (the drain), the master craftsman who put it in still managed to make it leak.
So pull out the moldy particle board (why there's particle board there is another "huh?"). Or start to. Turns out his method was more nails, more glue, maybe a screw here and there, and coat the whole thing with the glue for the vinyl. And when he couldn't cut straight, he jammed a shim in sideways between the boards, broke it off, and covered it with caulking.
I've counted three kinds of nails, four kinds of screws (including sheetrock screws, yay)... it's like he said to himself "Hey, I'm not buying anything, I gots a whole shoebox full of nails and screws right here!" :eyes:
All this because Mrs. Robb wants a bathtub. I suggested we just sit in the shower pan. But NO.... :D

1. And I will gleefully help you, |

but there's a catch. You have to track down the contractor who screwed up my porch and took me to the cleaners! I won''t ask you to do any bodily harm, just hold him so I can!

2. I think the same "craftsman" build my stepdaughter's house |
|
After 4 years we still cringe whenever she calls because it's usually not good news, especially when it's about the house. A few years ago she had to have the outside drain system dug up and replaced because the water in her bathroom wasn't draining. Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem. It turned out that the person who "renovated" the bathroom had not properly fitted the pipes together nor had he put the correct size in. So water was backing up and not draining and was also leaking out of the pipes - something she discovered when a basement wall gave way. Things are slightly better now, but it's a true money pit with really bad workmanship.

3. my boyfriend once had an idea for a TV show |
|
We would track down the inventors of infuriating objects and forcibly shove their own creations up their asses. We were going to start small with the inventor of those standard metal diner teapots (common in Canada) that always pour down your hand as you try to pour into a cup. Your shower might be good for Sweeps Week. I still wanna watch that show.

7. Man, Robb, sounds like us here in Conifer. |
|
Lived in this house for 7 years, wondered why the master bath never got above 50 degrees in the winter. This summer, we remodeled. Beneath the tacky 1970s vanity, someone had blown foam insulation in everything -- including down into one furnace register. And then, our shower floor was poured-in cement -- over rebars! We had to take a maul to that!

10. My parents' house was wired by a nutjob as well |
|
the entire living room, bathroom, and computer room is on one circuit.
One outlet in the kitchen is on another.
Old houses suck; they look cool on the outside, but they're pretty horrifying once you peel off the floorboards, siding, and plasterboard
