Poll question: I love the moon in its crescent phase --- how about you? Moon preferences?
Though a full harvest moon is pretty spectacular.

I'm talking about the earth's satellite, nothing else :D

Choice 1: Full

Choice 2: Crescent

Choice 3: Half

Choice 4: Gibbous (between half and full)

Choice 5: All at once (wouldn't that be interesting)!

11. especially when you can see the rest of it, too, faded out
in the background.

Sliver is lovely; just a hint of crescent.

I ask because the moon here in western NC has looked incredibly beautiful the last few nights... sliver into crescent.

15. yup!
Daytime moons are neat to see, too. I should have added them to the poll...

I couldn't see your daytime moon pic, so here's one I found:

16. I need to start hosting every pic through tinypic
Anyway I updated it, but yours was pretty much the same.

We should have a discussion on all kinds of atmospheric optical phenomena:
Double rainbow.
Halos.
Sun dogs.
Glories.
Sprites.
The green flash.
etc.

might also be a good subject for one of the photo contests...atmospheric phenomena

interesting that we'd chosen almost the same daytime moon pic. :D

9. it does things to lots of people!
:D

Seriously, my dad is a psychiatrist, and he was always busiest with hospital admittances during the full moon.

I have to get my male indoor/outdoor cat in extra-early during full moons, too - I usually have him in at dusk, but if it's a full moon, I get him in mid-afternoon or else he's IMPOSSIBLE to find. Any other time of the month, no problem. Full moon? He's out partying.

4. My dear Flaxbee!
For me, the top favorite is the crescent!

There's something so beautiful and delicate there...

But it's closely followed by the full moon...

Thanks for the great pics, BTW!

7. Hi CaliforniaPeggy!
A harvest moon, when full and low, takes my breath away. The first true 'harvest moon' I saw, low and orange, was when I moved to Virginia, hanging over the fields of Leesburg (when there were still farms there, not strip malls). But I find the crescent moon really romantic and soothing, somehow, and it's my favorite, too.

My husband is from South Carolina, and I really like the state's logo / flag:

It seems to appeal to a lot of people - I see many women wearing the tree/moon combo as pendants, and I see the sticker on lots of cars in Georgia, NCarolina, etc.

;)

My daughter's best friend flew out there yesterday to spend some time with them, so I expect to be getting some new pictures soon.

12. I think I forgot if you'd mentioned his name..
his pics were DARLING, though! I know most parents wouldn't agree with me, but some babies, especially newborns, can look sort of anonymous (to anyone but the parent, I assume). But your grandson looked just so much like himself already, if that makes sense.

How's your daughter doing?

13. He definitely has his own personality, which I think comes through in his pics.
He looks startlingly like his mother's newborn pictures! (His name is Hunter; I'm not sure if I mentioned that or not.)

My daughter is fine. She went back to work on Wednesday, even though the baby is only three weeks old. The jewelry store she works for has filed bankruptcy, so they'll be closing their doors soon. She figured she'd work as much as she can until they do and sock some money away. That way she can stay home for a while after the store closes.

17. I love all the phases of the moon.
The one I'm drawn to the most is the full moon.

Did you know my username is from a lunar deity in the Lord of the Rings series? Just an interesting tidbit to add...

Bonus: Old moon in the arms of the new. Crescent with rest just visible.

27. I love the moon in all phases
I like the fact that on any given night when the moon is visible to someone I love and myself we can say we see the same thing no matter how far away from each other we are.

My daughter remembers this when the moon is huge and full. She calls me to tell me to look up. It's so cool.
