What's the goddamned joke? |
|
Will someone please explain to me what the joke is in Armand's "Rosie O'Donnell and her partner got married" thread?? It's obvious he's not going to explain it to me. If it's not a homophobic joke (he says it isn't) then I'd like to hear it. If it's funny, I'll laugh. Right now I'm not far from looking longingly at Steak Knives because of this fucking weather.
Someone please have mercy and explain the joke?

The poster who started that thread is a hetero male, right?
What a stupid comment. Not even worthy of being called a joke. :eyes:

When I thought of Rosie and Kelly getting married, I was thinking about how beautiful their love and commitment is, feeling happy for their children, etc.
Their sex life is their business. I have taken steps to assure I will see no more rude speculation on the sex life of Rosie and her new wife, so that's solved.
I am probably going to hit 1,000 posts tonight. It won't cheer me up. You're moving, eh?
I moved in the rain a couple of weeks ago. I was thrilled to be moving to a better neighborhood, but the rain SUCKED. :grr:

I have just lowered my expectations of Lounge humor so much in the past year that it seemed reasonable to me. I didn't laugh, but I didn't hit the "ignore thread" either.
yes, we are moving in the snow. AND...get ready to really snicker...I turn 40 on Saturday. I told Michael I wanted a new vacuum or power screwdriver for my birthday...couldn't think of anything else! I hate to say this, but I am at one of those perfect moments in time when I think I have everything I have ever wanted...it's a good feeling...fleeting, but good!
Seriously, why are you so down tonight? Can't just be the weather...this is just normal pre-Spring Southern Shit.

It was like this on Christmas Day. It's been like this every fucking day for months.
I think we've had three days of sun, and those were when I had the flu and couldn't go outside anyway.
40, huh? You missed being a Leap Year baby by hours. Wow.

AND I was born in the only county in the US that shut down it's public school system rather than desegregate.
My Liberal parents had my ass outta there the second I was old enough to stuff into the Studebaker and head to NC! :)
Interesting times, those were.

SNL by Tina Fey.
And btw... not all of us hetero males make crass jokes. Thanks for assuming that anyone who would make the joke just had to be a hetero male. :eyes:
(Sorry I am in a very pissed off mood right now. I am sure you didn't mean it as the sweeping generalization it sounded like.)

What I should have said was, "Based on my own personal experiences, I feel safe assuming that it was a hetero male who made that stupid joke. Probably under the age of 30."
Most of the hetero males that I know who don't make stupid jokes are over 30. Although, my brother is just 25 and he's highly intelligent, dignified, mature, and respectful of women, including lesbians and their wives. He wouldn't have made that joke.
Hrm.
Sorry, I didn't mean it to include ALL hetero males. All hetero males are not disgusting, unfunny "joke" tellers.

. . .
the State of "confusion"
That "joke" MAY be appropriate between good friends,
just for an example
My brother laughs like a fool when I call him a flaming queen, yes - he is gay . .
BUT
should a STRANGER call him that ? - time to run for cover . .

16. Sure. Familiarity gives consent to a certain level of humor. |
|
My best friend and I call each other the c word in the same spirit that some blacks call each other the n word.
My best gay friend calls me a "butch breeder bitch," and I call him something worse. But we're friends. We love each other. It's allowed.
If someone else called me any one of those three words in front of him, he'd slap the shit out of him.
If someone else called him what I call him in front of me, I'd go to jail.
It's all about commitment. Making a disgusting comment about a VERY courageous woman's decision to marry her partner is not appropriate because there's no commitment, familiarity, closeness, etc. At least IMO.

Why are you taking it so seriously? It wasn't in any way demeaning to women or to Lesbians. It's just a silly play on words, that's all. Someone makes a joke that merely *references* Lesbian sex and you automatically think it's homophobic and rude? I'm a gay male and I found it quite funny, and I think you should locate your sense of humor, as you seem to have lost it somewhere.

You realize of course.. that I am under 30 as well.
OK so I am just spoiling for a fight at this point..
In the end, I could care less. I doubt most people would either. It wasn't *that* awful a joke.
However your post did give me pause for thought though.
I belong to the only group that can be insulted, derided, joked about and all around bashed without anyone so much as batting an eyelash.
Hetero-sexual, white males. There are an amazing number of jokes on us aren't there? After all we run the entire world and oppress everyone we come across, so we should be able to take a few jokes eh?
(Can you tell I am not amused? Sorry, I know you are in a bad mood too. I am just feeling sick and sorry for myself. A little pissed off at the whole world too.)

I apologize if I offended you, as well.
I am guilty of wearing my heart on my sleeve. When I come to the best liberal site on the net, and the first thing I see about a courageous woman like Rosie, a humanitarian who has adopted five children and done so much good in the world, on a day as special as her wedding day, is some....fellow.....making a stupid, crass joke about her sex life, and then because I was thinking about her courage and the beauty of their commitment, and I didn't get the joke, and I had to practically beg the....fellow...to explain it, and it turned out to be what it was, well....
I get discouraged.
Add that to the fucking rain and I really don't want to live in this world.
Makes it easy to lash out.
For the record, I think you have one of the more creative screen names on DU and have always enjoyed your posts.

It's cool. I walked for over an hour uphill in the rain only to get home and say "Uh where's the food?". I was a little pissed myself.
Regardless, I am sure that everything will be fine for all involved.

8. I've only fallen for one other "joke" thread on DU in the past 18 months. |
|
The first one was about a guy with a dog at a gas station. It was an awful post. But, I fell for it. I was screaming for animal rights... and calling the dogs on the "perpetrator".
In the end, the original poster was embarrassed and apologized for his "joke".
But, it wasn't funny to me and a lot of other folks at DU.

Don't go attacking me without finding out my views on homosexuality first. You automatically assumed I'm against them, when in fact it's quite the opposite.
Tina Fey said the joke on SNL when Rosie and her partner got engaged to be married. She said it on a "Weekend Update" skit. People found the joke funny then. I'm sure it's still funny now.

|
was that you're a hetero male, probably a young one. I asked you to explain the "joke" several times, and I had to go ask other people to find out.
I was in the position of having to ask to have a crass joke about lesbians explained to me.
Not cool. Not on a liberal site.
Excuse me, I'm going to end my part in THIS flame fest by clicking ignore. Goodnight.
