Heavy Rains Cause Power, Flooding, Traffic Woes
HONOLULU -- The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood watch and a high-wind watch for all islands as a potentially strong storm approaches the state. Forecasters also issued a flash-flood warning for Oahu.
Rains soaked Kauai and Oahu Thursday. The rains are expected to hit Maui and the Big Island by late Friday.
Kailua residents called emergency teams to help with a number of flooding cases.
One man on Marine Corps Base Hawaii was thrown to the ground when a bolt of lightning struck a utility pole near where he was walking. Base officials closed their rifle range when the weather got bad, but as the Marine was walking away with a metal ammo can, lighting struck a nearby pole.
