1. For what it's worth,

a very long time ago (in the 1930s) airlines did used to weigh each and every passenger. At some point they came up with the estimates now used, which have been adjusted upward by about five pounds, I believe.

Very small airplanes are much more sensitive to precise weight distribution. Big jets much less so.

Maybe the way to handle this would be to have all passengers walk across a special scale shortly before boarding, and individual weights wouldn't be recorded, but the cumulative total would be.

2. AND carry on bagage - good idea

Some people's carry on weigh 50-70lbs.

Oh by the way, I have a private pilot's license and understand the reason for this. But I could just see TSA saying "While you have your shoes off, step on these scales" .... :evilgrin:
