"The good Lord let me know in a dream Obama will win..."
Edited on Mon Oct-13-08 11:28 AM by Taverner
This was a part of a conversation I had yesterday with a woman who must have been pushing 80. New Orleans resident, Obama supporter and her kids are even on the campaign.

That part was kind of strange. On one hand, is nice to know some of the believers are on our side.

On the other hand this sounds as strange as saying God made Alaska for the true believers to bunker down during Armageddon, and Palin is the return of Queen Esther.

Of course I didn't say anything (I've learned not to start religious fights with people, especially really nice people.)

I mean I am an asshole, but not that big of one...

But what do you guys think?

3. The Queen Esther thing is funny, since she fucked the leader of Iran
She took part in the meat market, beauty queen contest for the king at the time and was a "stealth" wife. She hid her religious beliefs in order to gain power. Esther used her power to save the lives of others because a jealous wannabe sidekick of the king wanted to get rid of a relative who had saved the king's life.

The result of this story is also interesting. Purim is like Easter is like pagan spring festivals celebrating the earth returning to life. Bacchanals, all that. I never took Palin for the bathhouse/wife-swapping type. funny, huh?

4. I've never been of the mind...
Keeping in mind that I'm a person of faith, I've never been of the mind that the Big Guy (no-- not Arthur Carlson) gives us very much info on political elections.

On the other hand, I do think most people dream, and that sometimes a dream can seem so real that many people subscribe it to something other than their own subconscious. But to me, a dream is a dream is a dream, and when it comes to them, I prefer the Calvin & Hobbes strip in which Hobbes says, "I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long. If we're in each others dreams, we can be together all the time." :)

5. She's just expressing her hope
And yeah it might expose one aspect of this person you find less than admirable (the believe in divine providence or such) we all have aspects of our personality or beliefs others will find odd or not something to particularly respect. And if overall this woman is a kind and helpful woman and supports good actions I'd take it in the warm way it sounds like it was offered and not think any less of her as a person, perhaps more if I had my doubts prior about his religious beliefs clouding her judgment in a way to support McSame or condemn Obama.

I might have said something like "That's good we need every vote and even if the good lord is convinced we need to keep working down here to make sure that does happen." :) With a smile of course.

6. It's as good as any other means of prediction, I suppose. Never mess with an elderly New Orleanean.
You may wind up with jabbing pains in your back and buttocks!

Seriously, everybody has a different view of the world, and the joy of being a Democrat is that we relish the diversity. One doesn't have to agree with someone to respect them and love their beliefs.
