Pet spider kills owner; owner's corpse devoured by other pets
God this is sick

From ALLAN HALL
in Berlin
A MAN who lived in his own “zoo” of lizards and insects was fatally bitten by a pet black widow spider — then eaten by the other creepy-crawlies.

Police broke in to Mark Voegel’s apartment to find spider Bettina along with 200 others, several snakes, a gecko lizard called Helmut and several thousand termites had gorged on his body.

<SNIP>

“Giant webs draped him, spiders were all over him. They were coming out of his nose and his mouth.

“There was everything there one could imagine in the world of reptiles.

“Larger pieces of flesh torn off by the lizards were scooped up and taken back to the webs of tarantulas and other bird-eating spiders.”

1. Huh?
Gecko's don't eat human flesh. I won't say anything about termites, though. I'm not sure on that.

2. An article like this is pointless
If it lacks pictures of the CORPSE.

15. PETA is totally against the private ownership of exotics!
Believe me on this one.

16. It was just a joke
But I'd venture to suppose that black widows aren't "exotics".

Geography is what defines exotics. Virtually any animal not exotic in it's native region.

3. How dumb can one person be?
First of all, I don't think a black widow should ever be considered a pet, if you have one you are asking for it! Also what kind of fool would let these animals seemingly run loose (they were able to eat him at least) wouldn't you have to worry about even sleeping in that house?

5. He just had all these things running loose in his apartment?
I thought it was rare for Black Widows to kill a full grown adult..hmm.

13. It's rare, but not unheard of
Some folks are more sensitive. In the immortal words of Fats Waller, "One never knows. Do one?"

14. Sounds like Bologna to me
You could not have 200 exotic spiders running loose in an apartment!
They WOULD escape and the neighbors would not like it.

17. actually the article states
that the heating elements on the spider enclosures had exploded, letting them out. but it's still fishy.

12. Seriously. It's the Sun. They should have pictures of the corpse.
It's not like their shooting for integrity and taste over there. For Christ's sake, there are breasts on that page and it's a story about animals eating a human!

18. People should not own exotic pets like this
I am sorry if I offend but in my hometown a fellow's boa constrictor killed his 7 year old daughter after it got loose from its enclosure.

I realize that some people think its just great but these creatures can not be domesticated and they are dangerous.

ick ick double ick.
