Poll question: Favorite Brit Pop band |
|
Man, I miss the 90s... This is a primarily 90s list, that is why I am not including Coldplay and some of the others...
Thanks AT&T for that commercial with Come Together!

I agree with Gringo on both counts: Pulp and that these are rock bands however in the UK sense I guess calling them Pop is ok. It means pretty much "not jazz, classical, country" over there.
I love all that stuff First, Second, third Whatever British Invasion we're up to by now!

99. You forgot to mention |
|
the briliant lyrics
Farewell to this land's cheerless marshes Hemmed in like a boar between arches Her very Lowness with a head in a sling I'm truly sorry - but it sounds like a wonderful thing
I said Charles, don't you ever crave To appear on the front of the Daily Mail Dressed in your Mother's bridal veil ? Oh ...
And so, I checked all the registered historical facts And I was shocked into shame to discover How I'm the 18th pale descendant Of some old queen or other
Oh, has the world changed, or have I changed ? Oh has the world changed, or have I changed ?
Some 9-year old tough who peddles drugs I swear to God I swear : I never even knew what drugs were Oh ...
So, I broke into the palace With a sponge and a rusty spanner She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing" I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

and if you must go to work tomorrow well if I were you I wouldn't bother for there are brighter sides to life and I should know because I've seen them

Erm - Whoever called Morrissey a "Lousy Singer" needs to be smacked. Go listen to "I know it's over" - or "Last Of The Famous International Playboys" or "Asian Rut"
You know not of what you speak.
Besides that, Morrissey is probably the greatest writer of lyrics of our time.

He "Whines so much"? Go listen to Britney and Justin so you can have your 'feel good' lyrics - Morrissey speaks from an honest place - period. Most of us inside experience the turmoil that Moz sings about.
And most importantly, he does this all with humor and wit - and most of his music is about COMPASSION for unlikely figures and an appreciation of life's absurdities.
You are probably the kind of person who thinks "Girlfriend In A Coma" is a serious lamentation of tragedy - Rather than a examination of the humorous examination of the duality of emotion.
If you've ever listened to him at all.. other than enough to say "HE'S WHINING"

84. Oh. c'mon, worse than Jim Morrison? |

That's saying alot!
"If they said I never loved you, you know they are *a* liar..." They in the plural? Liar in the singular?! That just sucks on so many levels I can't begin to explain it.

I'm surprised they're not on the poll.
They would be my pick of the 'big' bands, but my personal fave Britpop band is theweddingpresent.
I have to add that I'm pleased to see nobody has yet vote for the Soup Dragons or Happy Mondays. They both SUCK!!

They weren't very popular here and had to go under the awful name, "The London Suede."

I would have used "Higher than the sun".
Guess that explains why I'm not in marketing.

91. Hell, I would've used Insect Royalty and put them out of business. |
|
Great band. Saw them live a couple of times, at least three classic albums (you can no doubt guess which one, one of them is among the 100 greatest records ever)

96. The Beatles of course |
|
while you noted it's primarily a 90s list, you didn't actually limit it in any way, and The Beatles were the definitive pop band.
