R.I.P. Levi Stubbs
Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs dies

DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- Four Tops frontman Levi Stubbs has died at age 72, according to the medical examiner's office.

Stubbs was the lead singer on the Motown group's hits, which included "Reach Out, I'll Be There," "I Can't Help Myself," "Bernadette," "Standing in the Shadows of Love" and "It's the Same Old Song."

The Four Tops were distinctive in pop music history for having the same lineup for more than 40 years, from the group's formation in 1954 until member Lawrence Payton died in 1997. The other members of the original group were Renaldo "Obie" Benson, who died in 2005, and Abdul "Duke" Fakir.

9. Ah, fuck............
That's one of the voices of my adolescence.

Nobody even close to Levi. Unique. Brilliant. Timeless.

His music will live on forever.

Thanks for the ride, Levi.

10. Couldn't that man SING!
And didn't we have us some serious Soul Music back in the 60s! There were The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Supremes, Otis, Pickett, Sam & Dave, Etta James, Carla Thomas, The Staple Singers and on and on and ON!

Thank you for every NOTE, Mr. Stubbs. We're all standing in the shadows of love now.

:loveya:

One of the younger employees said, "Who are the Four Tops?"

Sigh.

THAT is sad.

13. No, only unfortunate... and look on the bright side...
consider that that heretofore deprived soul is about to discover so much wonderful music.
