It was a really cool experience. I will post a little more about it later. Here is a picture of my animal spirit guide.

11. Thanks.
Though a snork might be a little more helpful when we are kayaking.

7. My dear puerco-bellies!
You've been on my mind for the last couple of days...

I nearly called...

I am so relieved that you're OK, and that you had success!

Congrats, sweetie!

And I'm sure the lovely Ali is very relieved too!

23. Hi C-P
I actually thought of you on my first or second night. Success is hard to measure but I don't think it is an inaccurate word in this case. Ali was confident in not only my constitution, but my plain pig-headedness when I want to do something. It was so nice to see her though.

24. Why..
My main reason was spiritual, connecting with my ancestors. I was seeking insights, answers. This is the way we do it.

9. Wow, that's hardcore.
I did three days without food once, but when I did it, I drank tons of water, and chewed lots of gum to satisfy the urge to chew on something. Plus, it wasn't really a fast so much as it was an act of protest. But four days? With no water? I think I'd probably break and eat/drink something. Good on ya that you actually made it.

It was tough, especially knowing that there would be no shame in quitting, and that there was lots of food and water just down the path.

but dehydration can kill in a matter of days.

28. The effects of dehydration had crossed my mind
After the second night I could feel how my heart rate was almost twice it's normal rate. The lodge I made had a few leaves still on the poles and I watched them dry out and die while I was in there. :scared:

41. I suspect that your increased heart rate
was a response to low blood pressure which was a result of fluid loss. Your body was fighting to maintain oxygen flow to its organs, including your brain. Reduced blood flow (oxygen) to the brain can cause confusion (visions?) and possibly result in coma. Then follows shock, kidney and other organ failure and ultimately death.

In survival training, I was taught the rule of threes. You can survive:
  • three hours without shelter.
  • three days without water.
  • three weeks without food.

42. On my third day and last night I had some odd episodes
Concerning my brain. Kind of like flash backs, jolting, very momentary. I have not looked up dehydration stages yet but I will.

I do not smoke, but I did burn both as offerings throughout my fast.

15. If that little dude's your spirit guide,

I think you went about three days too long. :P

Nice specimen, though. Our jackalopes out here in southern Nevada must be a separate subspecies or cline, having quite a different physiognomy and with markedly different antlers:

39. When I came out of the sweat lodge I was covered in sand/dirt.
I first drink was having one of my brethren squirt me down with one of those forest service firefighter backpack water bag called blivets that we were using for dust suppression. I did not swallow any of that water but I swear that my body felt like it was drinking it in as the water flowed over me.
