6. It was an automated "oppose this legislation" email... |

Here's the text:
Do Not Support S.659/S.1805/S.1806
Dear ,
I urge you not to support S. 659/ S. 1805/ S. 1806, giving immunity to Bull's Eye, the gun dealer whose recklessness armed the DC Snipers, and other negligent gun dealers.
This legislation is being promoted as the highest priority of the National Rifle Association despite the opposition of police groups like the Major Cities Chiefs Association, the Police Foundation, and the National Black Police Association, along with scores of other mainstream organizations and most leading newspapers.
What can backers of this legislation think other than that they owe something to the NRA? This is special interest politics at its worst and there is no excuse for protecting negligent gun dealers over victims of crime.
I urge you to listen to the almost 200,000 others who have signed a petition asking you to oppose this dreadful bill.
Sincerely,

3. I've received these many, many times |
|
Every time you write the president this is the reply you will get. I believe it's yet another layer to keep the elitist, Bush, separated from the citizens of this country. Even if you do "confirm" your interest. You'll get a patronizing letter from Bush's letter writing twinkie. It will not address any of your concerns but will just regurgitate the typical neocon crap.

7. I think it's merely a device to authenticate the author of a letter |
|
It's easy to spoof an email address, so they want to send a message to the purported author to confirm that s/he actually wrote the letter.
Otherwise any whackjob could send an email in your name to the whitehouse.

I emailed him demanding that he stop saying "the American people know," "the American people believe," etc. unless he either called me first to confirm that I did in fact believe/know what he was saying I did, or else say "the American people except NicoleM believe. . ." It didn't work. :( I don't think he reads his email.
