DAMN!!! Had ANOTHER Accident This Morning!!!
I was driving to work this morning in my Chevy S10, following a Ford Ranger down a two-lane road. Suddenly, the Ranger pulled over onto the shoulder and made a U-turn in front of me!!!! I slammed on the brakes and swerved to the left to try and avoid him, but couldn't = I wound up T-boning him.

They had to tow my truck away - the entire front end is demolished. And they took me to the hospital - X-rays didn't show anything, but I'm sore as hell and my right arm hurts like a son-of-a-bitch.

On the bright side, Progressive is already hard at work. The claims adjusted arranged to get my truck towed to a body shop and they're working up an estimate. Plus they're getting me a free rental car while my S10 is in the shop - I'm waiting for Enterprise to call em back now.

So if you don't see me on-line much for the next few days, you'll know why.

Wayne

6. My Third Since 2000
Rear-ended on I-25 in March of 2000 - two herniated discs.

Rear-ended again at a traffic light in December of 2002. Reagravated the damaged discs.

And today makes three. None of which were my fault, BTW.

Seven as a passenger. Smashed nose, crushed cheekbone, broken orbits around both eyes from just one of them.

Advil and beer. Trust the doctor.

I'll pass on the beer, Will. It doesn't mix with the Tramadol.

11. Good lord and butter...
I'm amazed your momma lets you out of the house.

I have personally only been in one accident. When I was less than a year old the man who would eventually be my driver's ed instructor in high school was driving while intoxicated. He ran a red light and slammed into my momma's Plymouth Sport Fury convertible. Fortunately I was buckled in and didn't go flying. :) My mom was PISSED. She was even more pissed years later when she found out he was teaching me to drive.

This is a classic sentence:

22. Damn, I had a crushed cheekbone as well
Many auto accidents but no injuries from THEM. My crushed cheekbone came as a catcher. Throw coming in from right field after a single, man on second, grab the throw, blocking the plate, turn to make the tag and caught a knee to the face from a former college halfback.

Spent three days in the hospital over the 4th of July weekend when I had tickets to a White Sox double header and a Yes concert. Spent a month with a water balloon in my nasal passage til the bones set.

Brothers in trauma Will, I have never heard anyone else crushing their cheekbone before.

24. Speed Had nothing to Do With Either of the Rear-end Collisions
In the first one, I was doing 55 (the posted speed limit) when this asshole doing between 90 and 100 plowed into the back of my Isuzu Hombre - did $4,500 woirth of damage to the truck, and snapped my head back so hard I broke the glass right behind me.

In the second rear-end, I was stopped at a red light waiting for the left-turn arrow when another asshole who couldn't stop in time hit the back of my Suzuki Swift, pushing me into the Buick LeSabre in front of me.

42. I Beg To Differ
When someone in front of you pulls over onto the shoulder and then suddenly starts making a U-turn WITHOUT LOOKING, SIGNALING, OR STOPPING, and he's across your lane, you have a choice - steer to the left and hope to avoid him, or steer to the right and risk hitting a tree or going into a ditch. I went to the left.

I teach motorcycle safety for the MSF. When someone does something unexpected like that you MUST doubt their sanity and prepare yourself for the unexpected. Scan. Identify. Predict. Decide. Execute.

You needed to slow down when he pulled over and expect him to do something stupid like he did. It has saved many lives for motorcyclists. It could save yours too, Take the MSF course if you get a chance.

30. Hope you heal fast.
Hopefully your insurance company handles the accident in a timely fashion. I was rear-ended while stopped at an intersection on a FM road. I was in a camaro and this bubba was driving an F350 with one of those massive grills attached to it. Knocked me through the intersection, tore my car up! I pulled into an empty lot, got out of my car, screaming at the idiot. I had just got my car that morning. His truck was new also and he said his brakes failed. Could be his failed brakes had something to do with the empty fifth of Jack Daniels that fell out of his truck when he got out  The guy had blood on his clothes and hands and not from the accident, he said he had been deer hunting earlier. The local good ole boy cop cited him for failure to stop :silly: and let him go. He drove off and I waited for the tow truck.

33. Healing Fast May Not Be an Option
I'm still under medical care for the two herniated discs I suffered in a March 200 accident. Friday's accident only aggragated the situation.

I've got my attorney on the case now - I should hear back from her sometime tomorrow.

16. Glad you were not seriously injured.
But even so, even if it wasn't your fault, having to deal with the insurance, accident report, body shop and rental car can be a real bitch.

A few years ago, my car skidded on a patch of black ice. I was able to stop, but the guy behind me couldn't stop and I was rear-ended. I wasn't injured, luckily, because that guy was driving a 2-ton pickup. Good thing, it was in rush hour traffic and no one was going over 30 miles an hour.

But just the hassle of contacting insurance companies, having the adjuster come out to give me an appraisal, then dealing with the body shop and then having to rent a car for a couple of weeks while my car was being fixed was definitely the pits. But on a positive note, before my car was hit, it needed a paint job. Well, the other guy's insurance paid for a complete paint job.

It didn't matter what the situation was, I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time, and BOOM! I think I might have actually died in one of them, but the gods felt sorry for me. Maybe they just wanted more entertainment?

I now drive a super small car, and am the most paranoid SOB on the road. I may even stop at a green light because two cars went through the intersection before me, and by god, I just know that damn light is going to turn red.

I'm glad you made it safely. Now get paranoid, dammit!

35. I used to work for Progressive
Long time ago that was. DO NOT sign anything that even implies that you aren't injured. When I worked there, they were just starting to come out with a policy for the average driver as they used to only insure high risk drivers. The whole idea behind them racing to the scene and banging out a check practically on the spot was to get people to not sue for bodily injury (that's where the insurance companies lose money) by having the person sign away their rights ASAP... and it works. The symptoms of a soft tissue injury may not even show up for weeks or months, so don't assume you're ok and sign any rights away. As far as insurance companies go, they're better then most (maybe even the best), but they're still just as sneaky as all the rest.
