4. You're So Vain
The song (I heard) was supposedly abouot Mick Jagger. However, Mick Jagger sings background vocals. He probably thought the song was funny if it was about him.

24. Last year, they auctioned off the answer to who the song's about
It was for charity, I forget which one, and someone paid big, big bucks for the answer. I can't remember who it was that won, but if I recall, it was someone in the entertainment business. The person was also sworn to secrecy to not reveal the answer.

6. I kinda like Let the River Run
got tired of all the real old stuff so it was nice to hear something so strong come out later in her career.

11. I like that one, too
I like the message. "Hey, you idiots! Why not at least TRY to be satisfied with what you have for five frickin' minutes . . . "

Well, she said it better . . .

10. You have excellent taste
Have you collected her torch song CDs? They're fabulous.

I also like the one she wrote about her mother, "Like a River".

Dear Mother your struggle is over now,
And the house is up for sale
We divided your railroad watches
Among the four of us

I fought over the pearls
With the other girls
But it was all a metaphor
For what is wrong with us.

On Letters Never Sent.

20. Thank you!
I have "Clouds in my Coffee", a three disk set of her songs from various stages in her career...a few of the torch songs are in the set.

Carly Simon is, besides a great singer, a terrific songwriter. Many of her songs are quite touching and honest.

14. I've always loved Jesse because it's not songwriting
so much as storytelling. It's that one woman you know... maybe you are that woman... who swears up and down to her friends that she won't take the dog back. Then he comes around and she's lost. And her friends are disgusted. "My friends... they're feeling bad... they think I've sunk so low." Hee! It's that real-life sitch wrapped up in a four minute song.

Honourable mention to "That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be."

15. "Embrace Me, You Child"
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 07:53 PM by Crisco
At night in bed I heard God whisper lullabyes
While Daddy next door whistled whiskey tunes
And sometimes when I wanted, they would harmonize
There was nothing those two couldn't do

Embrace me you child, you're a child of mine
And I'm leaving everything I am to you
Go chase the wild and night time streets sang Daddy
And God sang, Pray the devil doesn't get to you

21. That was a glaring omission on my part. Not inculding this song.
"Nobody Does It Better" is one of her best. Written by Marvin Hamlisch.

And one of the best of the Bond themes.

22. Let me have either --
-- "Boys in the Trees" or "Half a Chance."

Problem is, they're all very good. And you are right about her voice. Her voice is just right for those compositions.
