The Official Post Your Cat's Quirks Here Friday Evening Thread
Ok, there's got to be lots of them. I have several, but will only give one.

One of my cats loves the taste of Vaseline. I found this out when she was a kitten and I had this dry patch on my arm, and rubbed some on. She went nuts and started licking it off. Since then, I often just put an open jar of Vaseline on the floor and let her go at it. It's a good thing, because most furball remedies are basically Vaseline, and Melanie has never had trouble with furballs--she processes the fur quite easily, probably in part due to her steady intake of Vaseline.

And yours are.........

1. Moot appears regularly in my dreams. >
All my kitties have died, and, because my wife and youngest son are allergic, we have no longer have kitties in the house.

But Moot visits me pretty regularly.

I suppose what's most interesting is that she's just as she always was. No fear, no wings, not like, glowing or anything.

Just the same silly, loveable Moot.

5. My Cat Mimics Me
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 08:00 PM by Crisco
When she wants me to get up in the morning she'll tap my face with her paw, using *just* enough claw to get my attention w/out causing any pain or skin breakage.

It finally dawned on me that I do that to her all the time! (Well, I don't tap her face but it's close enough.)

When I'm especially lethargic she'll take it a step further and bite my nose.

7. Chloe,
my one-year-old Tortoise Shell, has many quirks - but one of the funniest is her distaste for loud music. The sound of the alarm (radio) in the morning drives her berserk - before I have a chance to hit the snooze, she dive-bombs me in the head. Once the snooze is hit, she lurks beside me on the bed...waiting until the music blares again, at which point she bites me repeatedly on the top of the head until I get up.

My husband has to lock her out of the room when he sits down to play his guitar - she absolutely flips out over it, trying to bite the strings (and his fingers).

When I step out of the shower to dry off, there is Sid, waiting to dry each of my knees. He's quite thorough, and never goes and inch above or below the front of the knee itself. When done, he leaves the bathroom.

I often wonder if my knees smell of cat spit... :P

28. I put their water bowls in the tub--when they were kittens, the apartment
I was renting had a very fast leak in the tub's faucet, so they jumped in astuck their little tongues underneath all the time. They got used associating the tub with water, and they always look there for their water! I usually shower at the gym, so they have the tub to themselves undisturbed, for the most part!

58. My cat, Cujo: rest in peace: liked to lick
the water off of me after a shower also. He would get into the tub with me like yours does.

He simply LOVED water. I kept a large pan of deep water outside on the lawn and he would get in it with two legs up to his "knees"; he'd take his paw and "scoop" up the water then lick it off his paw.

I had an indoor fountain and Cujo would get in that and bat the water around. He really liked drinking and playing in the stuff--I was so amazed at how much.

Another thing he liked was canned vegetables!! I caught him on the kitchen counter with his paw in an open can of string beans...he used his paw to fish out the bean, then ate it!!

I had two little pet rats once. They were in a HUGE portable cage. I was cleaning the cage at the sink one day. I had just put in fresh "bedding" and walked away for a sec. I turned back to find Cujo inside the bottom tier of the cage lying down. I looked at him and he looked back as if to say: "What?!"

Cujo was struck by a car and died two years ago.

I first discovered this when he pulled used Q-Tips out of the garbage. Then he started licking it off my finger and if he wanted more, he'd stick his tongue in my ear and start licking!

Watson licks the hair spray off my hair (Bunchkin used to do this too).

Alex eats broccoli.

Cairo eats avocado.

Quinn thinks I'm waking up and will pounce on my chest and start purring VERY loudly and head butting my hand until I pet him (usually at 3:00 in the morning).

He also comes into my room hops on the bed and just meows until I look at him and say something (anything it doesn't matter what) then he walks away and is quiet after that.

Not just partially under the covers, but he actually buries himself under all of the blankets, etc., and better yet, he hardly even messes up the bed when he does it! He just burrows his way down there and sleeps from about 9 a.m. until 6-7 p.m.

He is one seriously lazy ball of fur. And of course we love him dearly.

One of the two I have now used to kneed my chest and then try sucking on my nose, fingers or ear lobes to nurse soon after I got her. She stopped it in about two weeks or so.

27. One paw in the air while sitting
Both the Titty Boy and his mother (who died) sit with one front paw on the table/floor and one in the air. We don't know why.

The Titty Boy also likes to sit on the rim of the bathtub. While there's water in it. Even though he falls in every time he sits on the rim of the bathtub.

Titty Boy's mother liked to eat cantaloupes.

The cat I pried out of my suspension a year and a half ago likes eating hard rolls, Hormel likes dog food better than cat food, and Titty Boy hates table scraps.

We have two immense--sixteen pounds--female cats. They were both born black. One is now brown.

Let's see, Murphy fetches for as long as you can stand it, but there's a catch-- he only fetches hard candy wrapped in crinkly cellophane. He will drive you nuts bringing you pieces of candy from his stashes and dropping them at your feet until you begin throwing them.

Mango bites your hair in the morning until you get up and feed him.

Grendel's favorite attack and savage toys are feet, in socks. She's a foot monster.

Maxwell is dumb as a plank. Seriously. He's twenty solid pounds of the most beta cat you've ever seen. He LOVES pistachio nuts.

Marble desperately wants to be an only cat. She barely tolerates the others, sleeps on the pillow beside my head, follows me around trying to prevent the other cats from getting too close and receiving attention. She is the very incarnation of jealousy.

Morris is one of the neighborhood outdoor cats who has figured out what a pushover I am for feline charm. He simply comes in and out with our cats, and I don't have the heart to put him back out into the weather. He's sleeping on MY down comforter right now.

Get the picture?

35. Me 'n my big orange stupid cat used to play the ShutUp Game
He liked to sit in the bathtub, where I think he knew his voice echoed off the tiles, and mowl in the most plaintive tones. After the first dozen times or so of running in and finding him to be perfectly fine, I started calling back, "Shut up." Then it turned into a game.

"MOWL."

"Shut up."

"MOWL."

"Shut up."

(a little softer) "Mowl."

(a little softer) "Shut up."

(softer yet) "Mowl."

(matching him) "Shut up."

(even softer) "mowl."

(even softer) "shut up."

The average game lasted about a dozen rounds until I couldn't hear his response. Then he'd come trotting up to be petted.

He was a great cat.

My Rudy loves to crawl up on my shoulder when I'm on the couch and suckle on my earlobe. He gets it all good and spitty.

Molly (in my avatar) catches strange things. The first time she came in and let out the "I caught something" meowl that I recognized from my other cat. I went in to see what she'd caught - it was a paper towel. She's also caught cellophane, dirty rags and last night, an earthworm.

Punk, my oldest, LOVES the shower. He walks around the edge of the tub while I'm showering, and doesn't care at all if he gets splashed. Once, I was installing a new showerhead - Punk was sitting in the tub watching me. I didn't notice he was there - I turned on the water, and he just sat there, in the full force of the shower, without moving or complaining.

53. My boy Dobbs is a water nut. Water, water, water...
If it bubbles, drips or splashes, he is interested. Like many posters here, he likes to watch the shower, and lick the tub when I get out, or watch my wife when she bathes -- yes, he's fallen in a couple of times.

Every single morning, he jumps up on the bathroom sink so he can watch the running water from the tap, and he dips his tongue into the stream.

When I use the bottled water dispenser (blub, blub, blub) he comes racing up from wherever he's been hiding, skidding to a messy halt, just so he can watch the water gurgle around.

He's also fascinated by ice. He likes ice cubes -- he'll steal your water from your glass on the table when you're not looking, and he's developed a taste for ice cubes in the process. After the bathroom sink ritual in the morning, I give him 4-5 fresh ice cubes in his water bowl (after I pull out the soaked toy mouse). Then he licks the cubes and bats them around in the bowl.

I used to be afraid that the little guy was crazy or had some dreaded kidney ailment, what with all the water he guzzled. But I recently read that Snowshoes (which is what Dobbsie is) are hard-wired to be jazzed by running water.

And he's a Vaseline, nut, too -- but it's my Vaseline lip balm he wants. He got so used to smelling it on my lips, that when he saw me putting it on once, he was interested and I made the mistake of giving him a taste. Now, whenever that tube comes out of the nightstand, it's as good as a can of tuna. He's all over me, purring like a nut, and is *so* happy when he gets his little dab of Vaseline from the tube. The front paws are kneading, the big purr is rumbling, the eyes are closed -- mmmmm, heaven.

I love this little guy, and yes, I am thoroughly *wrapped*.

55. Clementine oranges - and avocadoes. Our #2 cat loves them!
We got him from the shelter here in Pasadena, so we figure since he's a former california street cat that explains his tastes. If he's full he tries to bury his food, even in a room with a stone tile floor. This is most likely so the skunks won't swipe his food, since this area seems to have a large skunk population. And you should bury your food, 'cuz you don't want to argue with a skunk over food rights.

61. Cute, sort of like a squirrel does so others won't find the food!

56. Often after a long hard rain,
I wake up to find pieces of dried up earth worm on the carpet near the front door. I don't really know how it happens, and I don't think I want to know. The one who does it is my youngest cat and she's doesn't even go outdoors.

57. quirky cats
My cat Freddy used to go crazy over Comet cleanser. The first time I used it around him, he jumped in the sink and started rolling arouns and acted crazy for quite a whaile. I had to clean the bathroom behind closed doors
My cat Ginger (a big black cat, don't ask) used to like to jump up and sit on my shoulder when I went to the bathroom. He was the world's best cat.

62. Welcome! You know, cats like dirt--most animals do because they roll
around and it cleans their fur. Maybe the texture of Comet did the same thing for your cat??

59. Two of my cats refuse to eat their food. . .
If they can see any of the bottom of the bowl. One of them will come and find somebody to bitch about it. This is the same one who calls each human by name (sort of) and loves to be vaccuumed.

69. Mine have a bowl witha right and left side--they eat everything out of
the right side first before they start the left--I've heard that dogs and cats are either right-handed or left-handed like people--maybe this has something to do with it.

67. My cat is a frustrated hairdresser.
He is never quite so happy as when he is perched on the back of the couch grooming my hair and arranging it 'just so'; he even makes this contented little 'chirrup' sound when he's finished. :P

of hair taste from each other!

71. Mamacat likes to drag stuffed animals into my bedroom.
She gets them from my daughter's room. Sometimes she will drag my daughter's Barbies into my bedroom. I think her hunting instinct is a little off.

My late cat Hellah thought he was an alarm clock. He would headbut both me and my husband to wake us up even on the weekends.
