Roxy Music "Avalon" was one of the Eighties' Greatest
Along with Synchronicity and Joshua Tree (sorry, these were in fact great albums)

Along with Remain in Light and the seminal postpunk Doolittle (for the uninformed, these albums pretty much determined the direction of Rock and Roll for the next 10 years)

It was THAT good

8. Amen...
Rio is by far underrated...Duran was directly influenced by Roxy Music who were obviously brilliant, but unfortunately Duran was always considered as fake just because of the dawn of the video age when that album is great from start to finish....sorry, I know that was a run on sentence but I absolutely love Duran Duran and often feel angry when they are slighted too....kudos to you! Oh and by the way, Happy 50th to Simon LeBon this week!

and I bet there are a LOT of babies out there who were conceived to that one!

7. Love Avalon.
Synchronicity was overplayed and overrated (but like parts of it).

11. Yes it was one the 80's greatest! Excellent choice!
Of course Rolling Stone magazine failed to include it in their 'Top 100' of the decade. :eyes:

22. Hey bro!
I'm ok; just really busy between the hotel the station, and my own music thing, which is (somewhat) on the front burner for a change. I hope you're well also, and if you ever (hint, hint) want to do a show for us we'd love to have you!

23. I was just thinking about a radio show the other day...
I was looking through flickr and they had a group about Podcasts and equipment that you can use.

I will get in touch with you and maybe we can both give me the kick in the ass that I need!!

13. I could leave you as you were
If I wanted to
Then I wonder is it fair
Now you're on your own
Who cares about you
Except me, God help me
When things go wrong
I do anything to turn you
Must phone me, you know me
When things go wrong
I do anything to turn you on

I'm not a fan overall of the 80s as a musical decade, but that album is sublime.

15. Without Roxy Music, there would have been no Duran Duran
Therefore, I love Roxy Music!!!

Bryan Ferry was pretty good on his own, too.

16. LOVE Remain in Light
In fact, just before Rolling Stone came out w/ its Top 100 albums of the 80s, I picked it to be #1.... (having forgot about "London Calling") I wasn't far off, it was #4.

Roxy Music's Avalon is sublime.

17. "Avalon" is magnificent
and great sounding. My Japanese LP was a regular reference disc when I was writing about high end audio components. "Remain in Light" would be epochal if for nothing other than "The Great Curve" and Adrian Belew's utterly mind-frying guitar solo thereon. I'd throw Magazine and Siouxsie and the Banshees into the mix for being incredibly influential on the next generation as well.
