Another year with ZERO trick-or-treaters.
(Well, except for the little kid next door.)

Our neighborhood, although close to the center of town, is a short, dead-end street with only about twenty houses, and is kind of isolated from the rest of the town. Over the eight years we've lived here, I think the most kids we've had come to the door on Halloween was about four, and half the time there aren't any kids at all.

I kinda miss the Halloweens where we used to live, when there were a whole bunch of the little bastids every year.

1. At one time we got a lot of trick or treaters. Now everybody
heads for a nearby newer McMansion tract where the houses are closer together and the kids can cover more territory quicker. I liked the old days better, though I no longer have to worry about running out of candy.

2. Here too...not even the neightbor kids! They may stop here on their
way home, I suppose...but usually, we get no more than 2, maybe 3, knocks at the door. We're the second to last house in a tiny little unincorporated community of about 150 maybe, so it's not exactly a hotbed!!

3. We got a bunch
And, I got to hear one family tell their kids they didn't want them going to our house. The only reason I can think of is that they're homophobes.

6. Maybe they were afraid of your dog.
Do you have a dog?

So nice to see you.

7. We've got two Border Collies
We kept Mick crated, because he's apt to run and doesn't like strangers. Beag is just a pup and very friendly, so she got to greet the kids.

9. I couldn't lure a kid to my door for love or money.
Second floor and the little bastids must all be at a corn syrup party.

It's just as well because unlike your guys, my Kid is part kangaroo and she'd jump up on somebody and lick them.

5. I won't get anyone this year either.
I lived on an identical block about four miles south in 1962 and we were all over the place in little messy noisy mobs.

Little abandoning bastards.

8. We have gotten a few groups of kids so far.
Local kids. Usually we get kids from Lawndale, and Hawthorne in our tract. For some reason they think this town hands out better candy.

In my day on Halloween we were like the buffalo, herds of kids roaming from horizon to horizon.. Them were the days.

10. only one here, so far
we could still have a few, but we don't have many kids in the neighborhood and it's not really nice enough to draw trick or treaters from other neighborhoods.

more candy for us, i guess

11. I didn't get any either, but I'm not surprised.
I'm also on a short, dead end street. Maybe 2 families with kids.

The "Beware of Dogs" signs are also a turn off.

12. The past couple years we got average 2 kids.
I always got stuck with WAY TOO MUCH leftover candy, which irritates me (because I end up eating it) so this year I decided to give out a larger, 4-piece set, enough for eight kids. Great, right? I'd still have some leftovers, but not too much.

SEVEN junior high kids came by at 6:00, and there goes my plan. I gave them each 2 pieces, worrying there would be another group soon, and I'd be out.

But, what if those are the only trick or treaters that come by? A whole hour and no one else has been by...

13. None here (out in the country) either.
The most we have ever had was about 10 one year. We haven't had any in years. I don't even bother buying candy anymore.

I'm glad... it would freak out the dogs anyhow.

14. Woo Hoo ! Twice as many as last year already and the night is young.
We've had TWO and it's raining so I don't expect any more.

Why, when I was a kid we trick or treated in the snow and walked up hill both ways.

15. We just moved back to our dead end street. In the house that burned down last year,
we were next to last at the end. Long downhill driveway. When our youngest was younger, we would get some of his friends.

Now we're at the top of the dead end street and we had ZERO trick-or-treaters.

Too far out in the boonies. I like being in the boonies but I do miss getting trick or treaters. They're so cute.

2 blocks up, there are tons of them, but we are on a dark, steep street, up a long driveway.

19. I've been swamped with Princesses
Vampires, Superheroes, Pirates and a bunch dressed up in scrubs and stethoscopes - the cast of House? Gray's Anatomy? Scrubs? I don't know - I almost never watch television. I didn't even recognize most of the superheroes, though the capes and masks were a dead give-away.

Some things haven't changed: most of the kids in this neighborhood are African American or Hispanic, but the costumes are mainly the old classics. And if I look up I see a cloud of parents, hovering about making sure this witchy looking lady isn't giving out poisoned apples. Nope, just peanut butter cups - four jumbo bags so far (of course everyone gets two, more if they're polite and say "Thank you".)

Halloween has to be the best holiday ever invented! No having to schmooze with relatives you can't stand, no having to buy gifts, no obligatory patriotic folderol. No, you just get to dress up as the fantasy of your choice and ask people for candy. And they give it to you! What could be better than that?

20. I haven't had any for nearly ten years. It could be my decorations. I have
in my yard, a big Viagra Pill, a lollipop, and a bloody butcher knife.
