1. The historic old town section is really cool.
I've only been there once, but it is a really neat area, only a few blocks square with lots of pubs, restaurants and shops and a jumping nightlife. The architecture is straight out of the 15th century with very narrow streets, etc.

As far as specific eateries, I'm sorry I can't recommend any but I'm sure some other DU'r will know some.

2. Gypsy Cab Company
Great food, awesome margaritas

St. Augustine is a neat, quaint little city. I was there for work and absolutely loved it! I'd go back on personal time in a heartbeat.

I am a Flagler College Alum... lived there a total of Six years and visit almost every year.

Lots of cool stuff to see and do! Shopping, historical stuff... one of my favorite spots in the U.S.

Just PM if you have specific questions.

4. What did you think of Flagler? I am looking at it for my son and
we're from MA, know little about it. Ok, I'll tell you that my son's criteria for college is location - somewhere that he can golf year round and he does want it to be academically challenging. He originally wanted to go into Sport Management but decided to expand to Business.

6. Whoops, one more criteria - it needs to be a medium sized to smaller
school. We looked at UMass Amherst and at 20K students he ruled it out right away. UCF looks too big but thank you for the input. I can't find USF on the College Board, what does USF stand for? (I assumed U of So. FLorida)

7. Skip UCF if you want smaller
specially class sizes. My sister left there in frustration and went to Rollins College in Winter Park. She loved Rollins.

I love St. Augustine and it is great if you like historical stuff. Old Town, the Fort and a tour of Flagler College is a do not miss. (Even if you do not have a future student checking it out.) I hope old Town still has its neat shops. Last time we were there the outlet shops along the highway were hurting them pretty bad. (Talked to a lot of shop owners.) Can't help on restaurants as I seem to only get to take day trips there and can't remember the names of any. The family is in Orlando and thinks we should spend most of our time in Flalala with them.

9. Flagler is not an easy school... it ranks pretty high in academics
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 03:15 PM by JCMach1
on the various lists. It's a small liberal arts school.

I loved my time there... There are at least a dozen world-class golf courses within short driving distance.

Flagler has one of the best small college business schools you will find... i.e. not a cakewalk.

The atmosphere is laid-back. I remember attending class with surfer girls just wearing a sarong cover-up with their bikini top. Guys would stack their surfboard carriers against the wall... just to wait until class was over to hit the waves.

Also, where else does a college dining hall have Tiffany windows and gilded murals on the ceiling?

Oh, and ghosts too...

From their website: * Flagler College ranks in the top tier of Southern baccalaureate colleges in U.S. News & World Report’s “America's Best Colleges.”

* The Princeton Review lists Flagler College as one of "America's Best Value Colleges" and among “The Best 366 Colleges” in the country.

* Flagler College has appeared in TIME’S“Best College for You” guide and as a “Hidden Treasure” among colleges by Kaplan/Newsweek.

* Flagler College has also been listed in "America's Best 100 College Buys" by Institutional Research & Evaluation—an independent research and consulting organization that annually identifies the 100 American colleges and universities that "provide students with the highest quality education at the lowest cost."

13. Flagler--the only school to wait-list me.
I applied to several small, private Florida Colleges and Flagler was the only one that didn't immediately accept me. I still wouldn't have minded going there. The campus is awesome looking, given that it used to be an old hotel.

12. The Raintree is a favorite of my parents.

Apparently, they have a large tree in the courtyard, hence the name.

Probably any good number of places along St. George Street. For a good beer, A1A Aleworks in the central plaza area has its own microbrewery.

If you cross the bridge and go over to St. Augustine Beach, Amici Italian Restaurant--my dad said it was very good, authentic Italian.

St. Augustine is one of my all time favorite towns. Spent numerous fun and eventful summers in the Ancient City.
