Poll question: Who will be the 2004 MLB world series winner ? |
|
Who do you think it will be?
I made these picks as the best teams on paper with some affirmative action to get 5 teams from each league and at least 1 from each division. I know I left some out, but if yours wasn't included just vote for who you'd want of the remaining teams
Remember, it would be nice karma for for democrats for the Bosox to win just before the November election, after the Boston convention and against Steinbrenner. And possibly with John Kerry.

Though, given what they've done to the pitching staff, I'm not optimistic. The games aren't going to be the same now that I can't scream "Eddie, you're killing me." during the ninth inning.

Even though they could still win their division, because their division is the worst in baseball, it's just far less likely that they would take it all than a better team in their division, the Royals. On paper, that is

Every time I see a fellow Red Sox fan I get this warm feeling inside like "that person might be the biggest jerk ever, but he can't be all bad".
Not to sound like a jerk, but what's with your fellow White Sox fans running out onto the field to attack people?

I was born and bred on the south side and I wanted to strangle that douchebag. The KC first base coach was a class act and now has permanent hearing loss in one ear because of that cretin. No excuse. As for BoSox fans, I was in Disney World during the first round of the playoffs. After the kids went to sleep I spent a few nights drinking with some Boston fans. Very knowledgeable and fun.

it won't be either the Chicago Cubs or the Chicago White Sox. Speaking as that terrible aberration in Chicago, an actual South Side Cub fan from the mid-1960's, I gave up on the Cubbies on Sunday, October 12, 2003. Never, never again!!!!
As for the Sox, they always sucked and they have an absolutely horrid stadium for baseball. What are they calling that monstrosity on 35th Street now? The Joan, or something like that?
Kanrok, I'm only joking about the Sox. If the Cubs can't do it, I'd love to see the Sox win the World Series. But I really was a die-hard Cub fan until last October. They're absolutely hopeless.

I'm NOT a fan of the ball-mall. What really riles me is that the architects who designed Camden Yards (one of my personal favorites) also designed Comiskey (now "The Cell?"..no freakin' way, it's still Comiskey to me). That being said, it's not a terrible place to watch a game, just not aesthetically pleasing. BTW, the Cubs suck.

To be totally honest with you, I've never set foot in the new Comiskey Park. It'll always be Comiskey to me as well. In fact, I haven't been to a ball game since 1990. The last game I saw in person was the Sox v. Oakland in old Comiskey Park, may it RIP.

|
As ugly as it was. it was home. As for the "New" Comiskey...it's too much like a suburban mall. Not a horrible place to watch a game, but to think of what it could have been makes me crazy. For instance, they could have positioned home plate to face downtown. If you look out the north side of the park, there is an awesome view of what I consider to be one of the most striking cities in the world. What a shame.

What were the architects thinking of when they designed that park is beyond me. The Chicago skyline is just breathtaking and to not take advantage of that particular view of it, makes no sense to me.

They still have decent pitching, but it's hard to imagine them winning the Series two years in a row.
My other team, the Atlanta Braves, might have seen their years of prosperity end. We lost Sheffield, Maddux, and Lopez.
It's hard to go against the Yankees this year. When it all settles, I think NY beats Boston in the ALCS. I do think the Cubs will win the NL, setting up a Yanks/Cubs series.

Bobby Cox is actually a good skipper and if he found a way to win back in '91, he might find a way to do it again.
I'd like to see the Cubs win a series myself btw. No hard feelings to all the Cubs fans about the Marlins robbing you of your chance last year.

Personally, I love the man. He's also a Democrat, so I like him even more.
I just wonder how much longer the Braves can sustain their excellence. Over the past decade, the only team that's come close to such success are the Yankees. I doubt they'll tank and finish last, but they're in for a touch season. The pitching, which was a staple of the Cox era, has been deteriorating the past few seasons. I hope Ortiz and Hampton can steady the rotation. I also like Bong. What a pitcher.

I can see the Marlins finishing strong in the NL East. Philadelphia should be good. The Braves are in transition. The Expos are the Expos, enough said. The Mets can't ever seem to get it together.
The Marlins rotation should be strong. Beckett proved himself to be a worthy ace during the postseason last year. Penny and Willis kind of struggled late in the year, but I think they'll have a decent year. Burnett should be back, but until then they've gotten Darren Oliver from Texas.
My main concern with Florida is their hitting. Hee Seop Choi is no Derrick Lee at 1B. The team wasn't particularly powerful last year, and losing Encarnacion and Lee won't help. The key is to get Pierre and Castillo on base as much as possible.
I think the Marlins can compete for a Wild Card berth again.

37. Braves, all the way!!! |
|
Okay, first of all, you listed two national league east teams, that haven't won the division in well over a decade, and leave out the Braves?? Doesn't make sense. I will give the Marlins their props. The Fillies, haha, they haven't done anything except disprove their yearly hype. I will admit I am biased living in the Atlanta area, however, how can the Braves be written off?? It seems like the past two or three years, either the Mets or the Fillies spend a bunch of money, and are supposed to be better, but never are. I will take the Braves to win the division because they have done it like 12 years in a row. I will take the Braves to win it all because this is a different sort of team. A team I think (hope) will have more success in the playoffs because of the drive of players who are just making it into the league. The Braves lost Sheffield. Heck of a hitter, and solid outfielder, however his two years, with Atlanta, in the playoffs, he was completely awful. He always said he would perform in the playoffs, but didn't. Many baseball people wrote off the Braves the past two years. The Braves made the playoffs, but didn't win it all. THIS IS THE YEAR :D ...Kevin.

The Phillies had an amazing one. The braves lost Javy Lopez and Greg Maddux and someone else I can't remember at the moment. But it will be the Phillies in the East, and if someone else gets the wild card from the division it'll be the Marlins. Or vice versa
