I kept waiting for a news story to crop up about this, but this created quite a stir (read: shit-fight) on Wednesday morning. I am a loyal listener of this show, so it was particularly of interest to me. I wanted to get DU's take on this:
The producer of the 103.7 morning show ("The Morning Buzz") Phlip (pronounced 'flip') Satchel made a bet with the show's host, Stanley Knox, that he could carry a cross from Home Depot on Chenal Parkway to the KABZ studios in midtown Little Rock (some 8 miles).
Satchel built a cross at Home Depot and proceeded to trek across Little Rock while giving updates periodically to the show's listeners. (see pictures below)
The entire thing was meant to be a publicity stunt for the Morning Show, not promotion of the movie, as the show's owner later stated. However, many people called the show to complain. One sponsor canceled its contract with the station as a result.

"Philip Jonsson, President of Signal Media of Arkansas, has suspended Morning Buzz Producer Phlip Satchel for a stunt performed on 103.7 The Buzz Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday’s show, Phlip Satchel took a bet from morning show host Stanley Knox, that he could not carry a cross from corner of Chenal Parkway and Markham back to the KABZ studios before 10:00 AM. Satchel carried the cross down Markham to University, up University to Cantrell, then down Cantrell to the KABZ studios on Cottondale Lane.
After losing a sponsor and receiving over 100 emails and 30 phone calls, Philip Jonsson suspended Phlip Satchel for 1 day without pay.

ChoralScholar commentary:
I understand people being upset about this issue, feeling as if 103.7 had made light of the story of Christ. However, I think it brings this issue into a specific relief. I believe too much emphasis is placed on "The Cross". It is an instrument of death. Furthermore, Christ was not the first nor the last to die on a cross. Therefore, I have always been of the opinion that glorifying the cross itself misses the entire point of the story. The wonder of the story is not that he died, but that he allegedly rose again.
