I've followed B. B. since the days of Milo Bloom and Rabies the cigar smoking dog. In all the time from then to now I've never seen one single bad strip.

I will miss Opus very much.

For a fella accursed with wings that didn't work, Opus the Penguin has soared high, and joining him for his three-decade ride in rarefied air has been his creator, Berkeley Breathed.

Today the pair will separate for good, as Breathed concludes his Washington Post Writers Group strip Opus.

The Pulitzer-winning Breathed first burst onto the national scene during the Reagan years with Bloom County. That strip's little penguin lived on in Breathed's Sunday-only strip Outland in the 1990s and returned to the funny pages in 2003 -- his plump figure a little different, his color a little more saturated.

As he prepares to pack his trunk, Breathed talks about his farewell to the strip and his next adventure, the new children's book Pete & Pickles.

18. This is the third time Breathed has retired Opus

Bloom County was one of the best strips ever.
"Outland" and "Opus" have been wretched.
Breathed needs to go back to dailies and quit obsessing about supposed PC thought police.
