Lap cats
So my Sophie has spent a good deal of the afternoon sitting in my lap. Its very sweet. My other cat Smokie doesn't necessarily sit in my lap but will lie up next to me. But she still likes to be touching me. A lot of people talk about cats being aloof but my cats are about as affection as any pet I've ever met.
Do you have a lap cat?
BTW, my girls were feral kittens so I'm very proud of the fact that they've grown up to be so sweet and friendly (to me..they are still wary of strangers)

2. Pixie is sitting on me now, impeding my typing.
The others will probably try to get in on the act before long. I almost always have at least one cat on me if I'm not standing up and moving around.

3. Mao Mao is super clingy
It's cool to have a really affectionate cat, but sometimes it gets obnoxious. He loves licking bare toes and rubbing his mouth on any-/everything.

But I guess I prefer having a loving cat to one who doesn't notice whether I'm present.

4. My cat was half lap cat, half head-licker cat.
I would fall asleep with her on my lap, and when I woke up, she would be sitting at the top of the couch with a tongue full of my hair.

5. I adopted Miss Patty just about 7 years ago.
I wanted a black cat, and it was just after the Halloween embargo had been lifted at the SPCA. So on her papers it says that she's a "Black Domestic Shorthair", but as I got to know her and her personality began to emerge, I realised she's mostly Bombay.

You want a lap cat, that's the breed I recommend. The books even call them "lap fungus" and I just call her the Barnacle. I broke my leg (hairline fracture) falling off my bicycle in 2002, and had to sit still for weeks to recover. Miss Patty was the happiest cat in San Francisco, since she could sleep for hours undisturbed on my lap.

Bombays are also really lush, with soft thick fur. I love stroking her, and she's a total affection slut!

8. I have a couple of chest cats.
They'll be lap kitties if I'm sitting up, but if I lean back I'll have fur in my face.

9. I have always wondered about feral cats' memory of being...feral
I adopted one cat from the shelter as a young kitten, and he is the neediest, but most affectionate cat ever. He wants to be petted and craves attention.

The other cat we bought at a pet store....he doesn't seem to be needy and is quite independent.

I can't help but wonder if the feral cat can still remember being homeless and appreciates being in a warm home with people who love him and feed him and take care of him. He gets depressed and won't eat if we leave him at home with a sitter or take him to a kennel.

10. That could be it.
I remember when I went to the vet to get them and when they picked up Smokie from the catbed she was sitting in she was purring..I think she was very happy/grateful for a warm soft bed.

11. I have a big old yellow and white former feral Tomcat named Tyler.
He was living in the woods and as wild a cat as I've ever seen. At first I cursed him because he would lurk beneath my bird feeders and occasionally snared a bird. I started leaving food out so he would leave my birds alone. It became winter and freezing cold so I put a heating pad in my rocking chair on my porch and left food out. He would sleep in the chair at night. It got to the point that he would scratch on my porch door if his food bowl was empty. One night he wailed and scratched on the door in spite of the fact he had food. I opened the door, he came in and jumped in my left and commenced to purr. I broke my ankle, had surgery on it and was in a wheelchair for 6 weeks. He would sit in my lap as I wheeled around the house in my wheelchair. He will use a litter box if he had too but he prefers to go out and will go to the door and whine when he has to go. He talks constantly. What am unexpected blessing he is.
