I am so proud of my 11 year old baby brother
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:32 AM by lionesspriyanka
Yesterday Lisa and I were at dinner with my parents, and we were discussing Lisa's coworker Robert. He is a homophobic, racist, xenophobic, anti muslim, anti hindu, anti jewish bigot. He refuses to eat at the halal-cart because its run by a muslim. He says these really vile things etc

So in jest i asked my baby brother (his name is neil, i call him halfu)

Pri: Halfu, do you hate other religions

Baby Brother: Ugh NO.

Pri: Halfu do you hate people of other cultures?

Baby Brother: NO (sounding exasperated)

Pri: How about gay people?

Baby Brother: Umm that's you, you know

Pri: So whom do you hate:

Baby Brother: People like Robert.

5. I think that is too much to expect.
I'm not going to blame someone for hating people who really do mean that person harm. It is just part of our nature. I think the key is to keep it in perspective and not let it run ones life.

4. Good for him!
I struggle with religion. I know it is wrong to paint with a broad brush but the truth is, any time I hear anyone mention anything that implies they believe... I automatically think "fundy asshole". And I know it is not true but truth be told, it is my first thought.

I'm an atheist and there is a part of my brain that tries to justify using this broad brush because of all of the evil that is done in the name of god... yet, most believers are good people... only the evil gets headlines so it tends to stick out.

crap... I almost erased that but I won't, there I am justifying again. I really do wish I knew how to keep these thoughts away and place blame where it truly belongs.

Your 11 year old baby brother is a good man, I admire him.

9. Cool. My dtr just turned 12 and she totally "gets it", too.
More kids today are growing up with a tolerance that makes me hopeful for the future.
