HELP! Car repair pros--help me figure out what's wrong with my car (starter going out?)
I drive a 2003 Hyundai Accent, 65,000 miles, never given me a moment's trouble.

Until this weekend. :grr:

On Saturday (and again today) when I tried to start it, the engine cranked, but it also gave me that grinding/buzzing "I'm not going to start" sound simultaneously. After 4-5 tries, I finally got it to start.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be? Is it my starter going out? It runs like a champ once it's started (so I don't think it's anything like the alternator). It also has an ignition kill switch (have to press a button on a key fob thingie before starting it), and I'm wondering if perhaps that's going bad and causing the problem.

I'm worried about expense (because I'm rather broke at the moment), and I have no idea if it's something that would be covered under warranty (I have the 10 year/100K mile warranty), and if it isn't, how expensive the repair will be.

Help? Please? x( x( x(

1. Might be something as simple as the battery, or connections
AutoZone or OREILLY'S will test it out for free and let you know what is going on. It could be your starter, but it may be something keeping your starter from getting enough juice.

3. That could be a lot of things.
I agree with AchtungToddler about having the battery tested. Is your warranty a bumper to bumper or a powertrain only warranty?

4. I think at this point in the warranty, it covers primarily powertrain.
I'll get the battery checked today. What's odd is that the engine cranks AND makes the grinding sound. Weird.

Thanks. :hi:

7. It sounds like you might
have a loose connection. Check the battery first if it's not that replace the starter.

8. It was the battery.
AAA came out and checked it, and then replaced it for me (yay, AAA).

I'm $114 poorer, but at least it wasn't something worse.

Thanks for the input! :hi:
