PSA: Gas up your cars tonight or tomorrow. I paid $1.99/gal tonight. |
|
Tonight was the first time in eons that I topped off half a tank with a $5 car wash for under $20. I thought the pump was broken.
Same thing happened before the mid-terms in 2006. Gas prices took a dive and I said we'd better gas up now because prices will go back up after the Election. Sure enough, they did.
Gas up now. Prices will go back up after this Election. Count on it.

1. Okay, so I'm preaching to the choir. Can't a gal have election eve jitters? |
|
Tomorrow night I may go fill up gas cans to occupy myself while the results come in.
And if this one goes into overtime, you'll have to peel me off the walls and ceiling!

Cynics aren't paying attention to market realities. Trading price for gasoline plummeted again on Monday, several dollars per barrel and more than 10 cents on the futures price per gallon, settling below $1.40.
The typical gap between the futures price and pump price is about 50 to 60 cents. Yet the decline in trading prices has been so steady and so sharp the pump prices have yet to catch up. The national average is about $2.40, basically a dollar above the futures price. Election or not, the pump prices will continue to drop. The best strategy right now is not to fill up, but get only what you need for a few days. Guaranteed the next time you need gas the pump price will be lower.

6. That's a dollar drop right before the Election. Again! |
|
I just don't see it holding. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
I bookmarked this and will check in a month or so.

5. In a weird way this could hurt Obama down the road |
|
We're in a short term slide in gas prices. Let's say the national average is $2 on inauguration day, hardly impossible. That could be the guideline used in 4 years, when no doubt we'll be much higher, perhaps double or more.
I can just hear the GOP pundits, "When Obama took office the price per gallon was $2.02...," content to ignore where it was months earlier with Bush in charge, or the difference of the price when Bush took office to the average during his second term.

7. And I don't think any puke would be dumb enough to remind people of gas prices during the bush term. |
