Poll question: Should I get LK a Wii for Giftmas?
He hasn't asked for one, but he loves video games and I think he'd really like it. It's a little more than I would normally spend on him, but he's a good kid, and I have a little extra money.

And before the rabidly anti-video game people start bitching, he does plenty of other stuff, he's pretty good at moderating his use of his game system (he has a Gamecube right now, he mostly only plays it for more than a half hour or so on rainy days) and he already has a good bike, enough books to start a small library and enough legos to house them. ;)

2. Yep!
Don't forget the component video cables (no HDMI out on Wii) though! Otherwise it won't be anywhere NEAR HD! :D

4. Of course. I got the giant TV mostly for him.
Though it's actually proved really nice for me, because I can read subtitles easily.

5. More than a set of pans, less than a nice camera.
Oh wait, you didn't ask me what I want this year.

The Wii's $250. I can swing it, but if you want to get him a game or something be his second favorite person with your name. ;)

edit: ei. A as in "not" and theist as in "a fan of invisible bearded men." :P

15. I know he'd like Twilight Princess, because he's obsessed with Zelda.
There was a thread earlier today about the new Guitar Hero, and I think he'd like that too, because he's very interested in music (he keeps getting up in the middle of the night and stealing my guitar out of my room, the little shit) and there are a lot of bands on there that he likes.

8. hmm.... "other"?
If he doesn't seem to want it, maybe it's money better saved for a year when some fad comes along that he's absolutely begging you for. Man, I remember in '87 or '88 wanting a Nintendo more than anything in the world, and I got one (!). I know that it was a lot of money for my parents to spend, and I don't know where they got it from, but they're the sweetest people on earth for doing it. So, I guess I'm saying, if he doesn't really seem to want one so badly, maybe hold on to the money until a birthday or something when he's absolutely desperate for something that you normally couldn't afford (this is assuming that he remains a good kid).

9. Oh, he wants one, he just hasn't asked.
It's pulling teeth to get that kid to ask for anything. A couple of years back I walked that kid through TRU and he picked out three things, then later decided he didn't really want one of them.

10. oh, then get him one
I have a friend who's son is sort of weird like that. One year for either his birthday or christmas, he asked for new shoes, a blanket, and a pillow. His parents would have bought him any of those things anyway, but when they gave them to him as gifts, he was overjoyed - he got just what he'd asked for.

11. Yeah, this kid never asks for anything big.
Three Christmases back he asked for one thing. Just one. This really awesome remote control pterosaur at the Discovery store.

And then his Dad said he'd get it for him, and didn't. :grr: Luckily, flvegan came through for him instead. :)

18. On one condition.
Add a Wii Fit to it at some point real soon. And make sure you join in too.

We're seriously considering getting a Wii for the family... yes I'm going to wrap it up and put my son's name on it so he can open it but it'll be a family gift this year.

Mark.

22. My kids love it and they don't over do it.
They are 6 and 4. They like MarioKart, Sonic and the Lego games (especially Lego Star Wars) the best. Wii Fit is a lot of fun too.

24. You say he doesn't play his Game Cube much.
Is that because the novelty has worn off, or he's not all that into it?

If it's the latter, I'd spend your money on something else.
