Will it come back for a 9th season? Do you want it to come back for a 9th season?
I personally do not. The show has become very stale.

2. Very talented ensemble cast who deserve recognition... |

Especially Doris Roberts.
I hope it comes back but it is still questionable. Romano is asking 4 million an episode and thats just crazy.

23. Talented, all right. But they all could be doing something more worthwhile |
|
Than this.
For instance...
Mel Brooks wants to do a musical version of "Young Frankenstein". And I do think one of the cast members of "Raymond" was in the film version of "Young Frankenstein". And I do think he could certainly reprise his role in the musical...

3. I haven't heard otherwise |
|
We've known for a while that other hits were exiting after 2004. I think we'd have heard if "Raymond" was on its way out.
CBS would be making a mistake not to meet the cast's demands. Even if it isn't as good as it once was, the show is still among the best on television. It's no "24" or "The O.C.", but it's better than most of the crap on network TV. I can't honestly think of many better comedies on CBS. "The King of Queens" is very good, but the rest of the schedule is littered with substandard programs like "Two and a Half Men" and "Still Standing".
The show has its flashes, but at times it can be unpredictable. Most of the time I can predict Frank's lines before he even says them. I also think Amy has brought the show down. I don't think she brings a lot to the show, but her parents are funny. They typify the Freeper fundies.

5. Amy's parents are great |

Fred Willard is exactly the right choice as her dad. You know, there are really people like that. I don't think they're too much of a stretch.

6. Back to the main point |
|
Have you heard any rumblings about it not returning? At the start of the 8th season, Brad Garrett and Doris Roberts had a contractual dispute. Garrett actually missed the season premeire. Romano deserves the money he gets, but I don't think he's the best part of the show. If any of the parts were to leave, the show would suffer.
I read somewhere that Patricia Heaton would be involved in some sort of spinoff. It's totally unconfirmed, but it was interesting to say the least. I wouldn't watch her as a star of her own show. I hate her character. It's sad when I side with Marie in their disputes.
It just seems a bit late for a series finale to take place. I know Friends has already shot there's. Surely Frasier's will be coming soon. I'd hate to see the show go without a series finale, like "Married With Children" and "Boston Public".

7. An excerpt from TVTome... |
|
(February 11, 2004
Industry insiders say creator Phil Rosenthal and star Ray Romano will decide by the end of the month whether the veteran sitcom will return for a ninth season. The duo have reportedly been meeting with the show's writing staff to determine whether there's enough creative life left in the series. Neither CBS nor Romano and Rosenthal have officially commented about said discussions however.)
They only have few days left. As of mid-Febuary though, Romano was saying there was no way the show would come back. :) Reminds me of the whole "Friends" thing from a few years ago. He probably wants more money but he denies that's what it is.

I bookmarked that site. I'm not losing any sleep over it either way. I can live with watching syndication from Seasons 3-6. Those were very good years.

9. it's a funny show, but |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 02:22 AM by syrinx9999
It's obscene for comedians to be making 1.5 million dollars a week, and to be asking for 4 million dollars a week. Yes, I understand capitalism, and don't reject it, but that's just crazy. And Debra seems like a bitch, and I don't know why Ray hasn't left her already. :)
on edit: Patricia Heaton is a "pro-life" Republican. The actor that plays Ray's father (can't think of his name right now), his best man was John Lennon. I don't know Romano's politics.

Better known as the guy who played "Joe".
And Doris Robert was "romantically linked to" Marlon Brando and James Dean. (Of course, the tabs lie ...)

Is Joe from Cuckoo's Nest? I think so. I also liked him in that Hunter Thompson movie. The movie sucked, but it's funny to look back on. "Where The Buffalo Roam" not "Fear And Loathing..."

My own informed opinion (which I know you are all waiting for):
Acting: Excellent
Gags: Very good
Writing: Acceptable
Premise: Execrable
Sorry, I just don't like the same-old same-old domestic sitcoms. It's like Ralph and Alice over and over and over.

It's like she woke up one day and decided she was going to cash in now by plugging any shit that would sign her. Her unpleasant face is everywhere! I didn't know she's a conservative pro-lifer but that explains my instinctive revulsion.
One of my town's grocery chains produced their ads locally for years before Albertson's bought them and took all the ad business to their in-house shop in Texas. (Watch the Heaton ads - she never says the name of the store, not even the grocery bags are printed with a logo. That's so an announcer can slug in different names for various markets.) So whenever I see her I see the faces of old friends who are now out of work.

Thus I do not love Raymond. Thus the statement Everybody loves Raymond is demonstrably false. Grrr. That Raymond spreading lies. Who does he think he is anyway?! :grr:

22. Have never understood why critics fawn over that show |
|
The Heaton and Romano characters seem to genuinely dislike each other, which makes their domestic squabbling kind of creepy and unfunny.
