An now, for my favorite Jefferson quote, which couldn't be more perfect
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 12:29 AM by dawgmom
Four years ago on this day, I sent this quotation to a friend who was grieving as I was over what the country had done. At the time, it comforted us both. Thomas Jefferson wrote it in a letter to a friend, in reaction to the passing of the Alien and Sedition Acts -- measures not unlike Bush's Patriot Act which severely limited civil liberties.

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt...If the game runs sometime against us at home, we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

The people have recovered their true sight. Hallelujah.

2. I was a religious "Married with Children" watcher and I NEVER heard that.
Never. Liar liar, pants on fire.

Wait, do you mean George Jefferson? I didn't see all those episodes. Looks like I missed out.

5. wonderful quote
reading that and listening to Thom Hartman in the mornings (he quotes Jefferson all the time) hammers home the point that although how much things may change, the battles remain the same.

And it's wonderful to revisit it again now. As I said...Hallelujah!

8. Thanks.
It's amazing how Jefferson's words stand the test of time...and how the we revisit the same things in our history.
