Jeez, didn't even know he was ill.

On edit, I saw that he died of cancer. Figures. It kills about everyone now a days. :cry:

He went to medical school but never became a doctor- but the things he learned in medical school gave him the background for a lot of his writing, including the tv series ER. A lot of the series is based on true or semi true stories of things that really happened at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was a great writer.
Also, the script wasn't picked up until 20 years after he wrote it and had written other successful books.
