3. Thanks for the heart-felt story.
I have tremendous respect for your father and for you because of what you did. I was born in 1967 so I cannot say what I would have done under similar circumstances. Nevertheless, as a skeptical atheist, I'm also against racism. With respect, I did not need a god to tell me cruelty was wrong.

I'm glad many churchmen, including Dr. King, found that Christianity supported their resolve to end segregation. Unfortunately, it was the minority view of the time. While civil rights activists could be either believers or skeptics, opponents of civil rights relied almost exclusively on Christian dogma to justify it. That dogma continues to justify the oppression of women and of homosexuals here and around the world.

So, while I applaud you and your brave father, I hope you will excuse me for withholding my applause for Christianity.

7. Thanks for reading it! And no, the Christianity part was not the main
point of the story...it impacted my life a lot, but I was not trying to proselytize, and I apologize if it seemed that way  It just was a whole upbringing that I felt fortunate to have, and what gives me my perspective on these issues still today.
:hi:

9. It is, although the Christian influence was not intended to be the main
thrust of the story...I just am amazed at how many changes I've seen over the course of my lifetime, and I think of that little girl and wonder if she feels as great today as I do!

10. I know that as well
but today I keep having these fantasy visions of a world united by the greater good, so I thought of uniting the religions that separate us. I loved your post, your testimony!
