Funny McCain supporter encounter today |
|
So I'm driving Bi-Baby to school today and as we're merging on to the Neponset bridge the truck behind us in the merge slows down to let us merge. Then, for some reason he speeds up as we were in his lane and forces me to hit the brakes and move over. As he passes us (and I'm yelling curses out the window at him) we notice his McCain sticker and Bi-Baby points out that he probably did that because of our Obama and DU stickers.
So we start laughing at him as we're driving behind him and we both put our thumbs to our noses and wiggle our fingers (does that have a name by the way?). The guy is watching us in his rear view apparently as he starts waving his middle finger at us. That made us laugh even more.

2. If he were a walking Chuck Norris |
|
he would've shoved the truck off the road with his gaze.

3. Chuck Norris would have bent space/time and brought the school to his parking lot |
|
then put it back when bi_baby was inside.
In fact, I think sniffa is a giant pussy for not doing that

6. You thumbed your noses at him. |
|
That's what we call it in my neck of the woods.
And good for you!

8. That's putting one's thumb to the side of one's nose |
|
and then flicking the thumb toward the thumbee, along with a slight, sudden lifting of one's chin.
The finger-waggle bit is a "something salute," but damned if I can remember what "something" is.

9. My dad would sometimes refer to the middle finger as |
|
the short arm salute, could that be related?
(I know it isn't what you are talking about, but I wonder how regional these kinds of names are.)

12. I'd imagine 'short arm salute' is related |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 04:09 PM by Oeditpus Rex
to "short arm inspection" in the military, i.e. "Drop yer drawers."
Er... "skivvies." Nobody says "drawers" in the military.

10. From the urban dictionary |
|
1)A sign of derision made by putting your thumb on your nose and wiggling your fingers.
2)A sign of derision made by putting your thumb on your nose and wiggling your fingers. Original motion created by placing ones thumb upon the side of their nose and pushing out as if giving thumbs up.
Etymology: Originated in the 1640's in Vienna. Gained popularity when Shakespeare is said to have 'thumbed his nose' at Edmond Rostand.

17. It is the urban dictionary. |
|
I think you are right, but a five finger salute is a wave. A three finger salute is a computer command and you know what the one finger salute is. Maybe I will google a four finger salute.

14. Oh, then I've been doing the |
|
finger-waggle bit, whatever it's called. I thought I was thumbing my nose. I'd never even heard of a gesture wherein the thumb is put alongside the nose and flicked while lifting the chin. Thanks for the lesson. I will practice it a bit, and then head out to use it, when appropriate. :-)

If I encounter any angry McLame supporters, I plan to just smile and wave, or maybe make the "Loser" sign ("L" on the forehead thingie).
