I know, I know, not again, but I was wondering something(Passion) |

I was hoping that someone who saw the movie could answer something for me. If you think back on the film, and eliminate the idea that this was a representation of the death of Jesus, and it was just a movie about some obscure historic event, real or invented, what would you think of it?
I would like to hear an interpretation as if this was just "a movie". What would be your review? How do you think someone who had never heard the story would interpret it?
I was going to post this to the other thread from the peron who saw it, but they havent contributed to that one in quite a while, and I don't know if anyone else here that's awake has seen it yet.

it's got more press than all the dying and maimed in Iraq at the hands of the good Americans
There -

2. Haven't seen the damn thing yet -- |

-- but there's a strong right-wing revenge/bloodlust coursing through most of Gibson's films, so I might skip PASSION and rent EQUUS instead. I'll take a pagan horse over a right-wing messiah any day.

4. I'm trying to get an idea |
|
Of how this film would be percieved if it was not about Jesus, or if the story was not widely known. Without knowing the whole story, how would you view this film? Anyone? I really am curious. I will check this tomorrow. I have to go to sleep. Goodnight DU!!

6. Let's say Mike Moore produced it |
|
and it wasn't about Jesus but had the same concept.... Bush and Congress including Holy Joe Lieb would be out on the stump demanding a constitutional Admendment against these types of movies....

that the movie IS about Jesus. If you take that our, what else is there? Why make, or watch it? Anymore than if you ripped the heart out of any other work? It has a point, a foundation, if you will. Remove the foundation from a bridge, or a house, and the whole structure falls down. Same with a movie, or a book.
so, to me atleast, the question is nonsensical on the face of it. Some of the critics decry the violence of the film. But the violence should be judged on how relevant to the theme of the movie it is. In this case, I would say, 'very'. We are talking about the crucifiction and sacrifice of Christ here. Now, you can also judge whether the theme itself is worthy. But to say, what what the film is like if it was about, oh,say, a random act of violence is to rape the film.

9. Thats a tough question. In retrospect, if the movie were not |
|
about Jesus, and if I did not believe in Jesus, would it have been as compelling? I guess my answer would have to be no. While it would be agony to see any person depicted as suffering in the way Jesus did in the movie, the knowledge that the movie was about the suffering of my Lord reached into my heart in a much more dramatic way. The movie brought my love for him into a greater focus.
