1. That was surprising
Arizona, Florida not so much, I suppose. But California? :wtf:

Didn't the California State Supreme Court rule gay marriage bans unconstitutional?

2. Yes, they did, but I think this over rules the
California State Supreme Court decision (?) I think I heard that on NPR, that this trumps it. What we need is a recognition of gay marriage ON A NATIONAL LEVEL to stop this.

3. It overturned Prop 22
which was a referendum that changed the state civil code.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_22

Prop 8 was a constitutional amendment. That's a lot harder to overturn.

5. "A simple majority of votes cast is required to enact a constitutional amendment"
That seems bizarre. Constitutions shouldn't be so easy to amend.

7. Yup
Kollyforniya's referendum system needs an overhaul.

We're still feeling the effects of Proposition 13, the Taxpayer Revolt, in 1978.

4. my uncle married his partner last Friday
they knew this was going to happen

I don't see how a previous legally binding document can be overturned because of this.

6. Congratulations to your uncle and his partner. I wish it
was NOT like this. :( As you might know, I am bisexual. Hate should not be in a constitution.

I am really, really unhappy with my state right now. :(
