California State Supreme Court decision (?) I think I heard that on NPR, that this trumps it. What we need is a recognition of gay marriage ON A NATIONAL LEVEL to stop this.

which was a referendum that changed the state civil code. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_22Prop 8 was a constitutional amendment. That's a lot harder to overturn.
