Obama name craze for Kenya babies

Mothers in Kenya have marked Barack Obama's historic win in the US presidential elections by naming their newborns after him and his wife.

More than half of the babies born in a Kisumu Hospital on the day after the election were named either Barack or Michelle Obama.

Kisumu is close to the village where Mr Obama's father was born and raised and Mr Obama is a local hero.

The region erupted in celebration after he won the race for the White House.

Out of 15 babies born in the New Nyanza Provincial Hospital in the western city of Kisumu on Wednesday, five boys were named Barack Obama and three girls were called Michelle. snip

Well, now I don't have to worry about 1/2 the little girls born named MY name anymore. Sigh! :(

3. As I said in another post

I think this is wonderful. And I think Obama will be a great President so those children will be proud to carry his name

That having been said, there are sometimes risks involved in doing this. As I als said in an earlier post, I was reading a book about an impoverished Sudanese village in the late 1980s whre in influx of food and aid ordered by the first Bush Administration led many villagers to perceive President Bush Sr as a hero who had saved their lives. Many villagers were so grateful and thankful to him that they named their kids George Bush in his honor

I feel sorry for those kids today
