I waterboarded myself last night with a Neti Pot
I can't really recall an activity that went from being so extremely uncomfortable to so extremely soothing like that. Plus, I had no idea how much water you can cram inside a human skull.

2. That's what I thought before, and, actually, while I was doing it
but the feeling you get afterwards is fantastic.

It's not in any way, shape or form a pleasant experience, but the results are pretty friggin good.

3. You did use saline salt mix in the water right?
Plain water feels surprisingly like fire in one's nasal cavities.

4. I salted my sinuses so that no funk could ever grow there again
I need to instigate a scorched earth policy on my stupid sinuses. I hate them and they hate me right back.

12. I love my neti pot

Ahem. You never use plain water--always add enough salt that you can just taste it, so it's the same salinity as your body tissues. You can also make tea for various effects (depending on what's wrong with you), but the salt is always a must. If it's warm and salty, you actually don't feel it going through you.

I also used to have constant sinus headaches and am only rarely bothered at the height of pollen season now--always quickly ended with a quick rinse. My kids thought this was the grossest thing and my son finally got miserable enough to try one. Instant convert.

6. Good for you! This weather isn't helping ones sinuses!
Neti pots can save you a whole nose-full of grief. The nasty congestion/snot stuff that has been going around the last ten years or so is making the ENT guys rich. I guess it is a little like water boarding though. However having a sinus infection or having ones sinuses scraped is a whole lot less comfortable than a nose full of salty water that you have control over.

9. I love my neti pot...
Seriously, it's one of the better self-care things I've ever bought. I have no more sinus infections, almost no more sinus headaches, and about 1/4 as many colds in the winter. Plus my sinsuses just *feel* better! :)

10. My sinuses feel AWESOME today
Last night was my first Neti Pot experience. Does it get better after a while, or do you get used to it, or does it feel like that every time?

11. It gets better.
You learn the exact amount of salt and water temp preference for yourself, and you learn the correct angle(s) to position your head to get maximum benefit with minimum (no) discomfort or residual water, most of the time. :)

14. All right... I gotta try this.
I saw Amy Sedaris do it on some talk show and she made it look pretty easy... but that has got to feel awful. It just looks so wrong.

16. It is a very strange experience, but I can tell you that when you are done with the
treatment, you feel amazing. It really does work wonders for those who suffer from sinusitis and allergies.

17. It literally took me a month to find the courage to do it
It had been sitting in the box in the bathroom, taunting me. Last night my sinuses were in a massive uproar, so I said the hell with it and tried it.

It didn't "hurt" or anything. It just felt so completely freaky weird (and yes, uncomfortable) to be pouring water up my nose. After it was all done, though...WOW.

My sinuses are crystal clear today.

15. I don't know what my man would do without his neti pot.
He uses it on top of flonase and the odd claritin. Makes him nicer to be around.
