WKRP Question
Which episode ended with Johnnie singing along with Van Morrison's "Caravan"? I've been trying to find it.

1. It's the one where Loni Anderson makes her breasts the focus of her character.
:P

3. Remember that episode of "3's company"...
That Janet Chrissy and Jack all have that huge misunderstanding? But then by the end of the show it was resolved?

I'm trying to find that one... :7

5. I love that one! Reminds me of my favorite Gilligan's Island
where they come up with a great plot to get off the island, but somehow Gilligan fouls it up.

11. That's not even close to as good as that episode of "leave it to beaver"
Where the beav gets in trouble, and wally gets in more trouble trying to bail him out, and then ward solves it for them and gives them a stern talking to with fatherly advice mixed in.

I love that episode

Now I'm getting Vaklempt

Talk amongst yourselves....

20. You sure you don't mean the 'I Love Lucy'
where Lucy gets in trouble while Ricky is away and then cries at the end?

Not at the end.

2. Here
From wikipedia. "Caravan is the song that Dr. Johnny Fever is playing and singing along to in Season 1 of WKRP. The "Young Master Carlson" episode."

All you had to do was google "Johnny Fever Caravan."

4. I love that episode, mainly just for that scene.
Do you know if the song made it into the DVD version?

I have no idea. I thought about it again because that song cycled on my iPod here at work. :)

10. I haven't seen the DVDs
But not all the original music was purged from them. Pink Floyd's "Dogs" stayed in the scene where Mr. Carlson asked Johnny, "Do I hear dogs barking on that record?" and Johnny replied, "I do." :D

"Caravan" is obviously integral to Johnny lip-synching it, so maybe they tried extra-hard to get the rights to it rather than having to cut the scene and do a rough edit.

But, I dunno.

12. I found this, but have no way to verify it.
Young Master Carlson
All songs replaced, even the theme from Patton, a Fox film. Some footage cut from one scene.

14. It says 'Dogs' was cut, too
Weird. When Nick At Nite brought the series back in 2000 or thereabouts, "Dogs" was in it.

Without it, they'd pretty much have to scrap that entire scene, because Mr. Carlson asks Johnny, "What's the name of that orchestra?" Johnny says "Pink Floyd," and Mr. C says "Oh, is that Pink Floyd?"

15. That blog was talking about a mid-90s syndicated version
that apparently had most or all of the original music. I think they said there was a second syndication where things started to change, and then the DVD release, which seems to have been a disaster.

But as for scrapping scenes, he (she?) did mention that the DVD actually contains scenes that are totally gone because the dialogue took place over music they didn't secure the rights to.

("Music to whose rights they dared not secure, sir!")

All in all, it sounds like a damn shame. You'd think FOX would have the money to have done the series release the right way or not have done it at all.

18. Sweet!
It really shows how off-base KRP was in terms of radio, though. In 1978, an AM DJ would get written up for playing anything longer than 3:30, especially during a.m. drive. "Dogs" ran 17:06, and it sure as hell wasn't a Top 40 song.

But, hell — that's part of what made the show so damned funny. :D

23. Woohoo!
Maybe they've got the one where Carlson fucks with the blinds in his office. Funniest bit in the whole series — hell, maybe in teevee history — and I can't remember which episode it was in. :banghead:

27. It's around the 9 minute mark.
It's important to the story because Carlson's son walks in while he's in his own world. x(
