All,
I have registered FirstPuppy.org. The site has nothing on it yet, but I will work on it over the weekend. I don't know if anything will come of it, but the concept is, I think people everywhere could make trips to there local shelter, take pictures, meet some puppys, right a little bio about the dog, and post.
I had said I was sure that the ASPCA would be all over helping them locate a dog. Now, as I understand the AKC is 'helping him'. I'm sure there is a puppy waiting SOMEWHERE that would be perfect for our new first family.
I'm open to ideas, help whatever. Just want to get the ball rolling.
email puppy@firstpuppy.org
Thanks T
P.S. Not trying to make money on the site.

Thanks for the welcome. Truth is, I have been kicking around since 2003, just never bother to make a ID. I did last week, and... well, I guess I will use it.
Any help is welcome.

Its a honest attempt to do something to help find a puppy from a SHELTER.
It took my wife and I well over a year to find our dog from a shelter. Lots of trips, lots of crying, but in the end, it was the right decision.
The symbolism of the first family getting there dog from a shelter could go a long long way.

My girlfriend's response when Obama mentioned the puppy was "He damn well better adopt one from a shelter!" That's a pretty cool idea you've got, hopefully you have some luck wiuth it.

7. See what it looks like next week. |

I will try to get something going over the weekend. If Malia and Sasha are half as excited about getting their puppy as I am when I'm looking to add to my pet family, this could go quickly.
I would really like them, the girls, to start there life with pets in a very positive way. Also understanding that these aren't items you pick-up at the store (read breeder).

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12215065LOL! She's Bichon Frise-Dachshund, so being part French, her name is Liberty as in "Liberty fries"! She's in Dayton Ohio, about halfway between Chicago and Washington, D.C.. :)

Got the "Dachshund" part of your post, and didn't except much, but thats a very cute dog.
The idea that somehow the AKC can tailor fit a dog is getting me a little more angry as I think about it. Its a much better bet that we can find a dog in a shelter just waiting for them.
Just to get my preference out there, I hope for a hound mix. Anyway, a larger dog. For children larger dogs are better, in my opinion.

10. A little girl is holding the puppy like a baby. |

The description says she's good with children. Malia has allergies, and Bichon Frisés are "hypoallergenic", so some people have suggested they'd be a good choice. I like big dogs, too, but we had two coon hounds next door and their baying was LOUD! I found my dear dog from the SPCA on the internet. I have a good feeling about this pup, so I emailed her page to Obama's senate e-address. :)

13. A puppy could do a better job. |

I'm sitting at work. It was registered about a hour ago. In other words, cut me some slack.
Got any idea, let me know.

That Liberty is a cutie & fits what the Obamas are looking for! I hope hope hope they choose a shelter or rescue puppy & tell the AKC to take a long hike off a short pier!
