2. I know the processor is bad, but HOW bad?
Will I be pulling my hair out in frustration?

(I don't game, I basically use the computer for Internet and music on iTunes.)

4. I wouldn't expect fantastic peformance, but if you're not looking for fantastic performance

I'm sure it'll be just fine. I'm a cheap bastard myself so I tend to favor the old-enough-to-be-cheap-but-still-good stuff, although the one thing I do usually invest in is a good motherboard and processor. I put my current computer together several years ago for about 400 bucks (desktop though, not a laptop), no fancy video card, just the basics. And the processor is just now starting to fall behind the minimum requirements for modern games and whatnot. (granted, with no fancy schmancy new video card I couldn't play 'em anyway, but still. :P )

*edit* Oh, and I'm with the poster below... I'd much rather put XP on a lower end machine like that than Vista.

5. I'd be iffy running VIsta on it
but it would do XP fine, linux just as well if it's just a surfing/emailing/music/bullshitting machine
