It's kinda scary when I realize it's happening...especially when I have a hard time stopping whatever it is. Usually, for me, it's something creative. Writing, cooking -- whatever. Even cleaning sometimes. I have to consciously make myself stop for breath and when I do, I'm thinking about it.

They coalesce to make me one of those people you really like...after you've known me for awhile. At first glance I'm quirky, dry, and possibly aloof, not exactly a charming figure.

I have many worsts. I live in my own head and I'm mostly brain first, heart second. I tend to lack empathy unless the situation hits me (or one of my objects of obsession--see next sentence) personally. I become quietly and unobtrusively obsessed with certain people and subjects and can't let them go until something truly shakes me away, and by "something" I mean something game-changing, earthquake-like in its magnitude; I just rationalize my way around any impediment smaller than that.

A lot of them come from trying to protect yourself and your heart and being young. I see a lot of those qualities in my own kids, actually. Especially the older two.
