When I watch those Prison shows on TV, I'm always torn between two thoughts

1. How depressing and sad prison is.
2. To quote Richard Pryor: "Thank God we got penitentiaries."

1. I always think where is that damn channel changer.
Always have loved that Pryor quote though.

6. I only watch them on what I call "driveby"
You know, when you're flicking through channels, and you alight on a station for three minutes or less, your mouth agape in horror, until you say to yourself, "Why the hell am I watching this?" and then you drive on by. It's how I know about shows like that one about the dimbulbs who live with Hugh Hefner, or the one about the bounty hunter with the horrible mullet. Click. ;)

2. I don't watch the shows
But, as a police officer, I wonder who those people are who want these criminals out on the streets? They are the ones who call us in the first place most of the time, and I don't want to open my home to them either.

Prison is sad and depressing, as it should be.

5. Those thoughts are not dissonant.
Both are true.

7. Yup.
Not really unlike Richard Pryor's original routine on the subject.
