I am removing wall paper and it isn't cooperating... |
|
any advice?
I scored it, sprayed it with a mixture of fabric softener and water, and I am using a scraper to take it off.
I don't know how much paste was used on this wall paper, but it doesn't want to come off!!

1. Last time I did that, I ended up having to rent a steamer |
|
Some wallpaper seems quite determined to stay on.

2. Try warm water and vinegar, or... |
|
you can buy a wallpaper removal mixture.
Or, maybe go a little heavier on the fabric softener in the mixture, or give it some more time to sink in.
Good luck.

3. If you can still get a store that sells such things tonight ... |
|
... get wallpaper removing solvent from your hardware store, Home Depot, or the like.
Believe me, it works like a charm. The stuff is mixed with water (read directions). Apply it to the wallpaper with a sponge (spraying isn't enough) - and really SATURATE the paper. Within three or four minutes, it should peel off easily.

4. Update from my husband the carpenter |
|
He says that you need to peel the top layer which is vinyl off first because even scored, the water will not penetrate. If you peel as much vinyl off as you can, you can then soak the actual paper (he uses a sponge) and if you let it soak in for a bit, it should wipe right off.

8. Squirt water on it, wait 30 seconds, then scrape off with your fingernails |
|
It is time consuming. It is painful. But it feels strangely rewarding to see it finally come off and you know you did it with your bare hands.

We moved last year into a house with wallpaper in EVERY room! I choose the 3 worst rooms and removed the paper. One room took some attention, but it came off. The 2nd room peeled off in long strips with no problem,. but the 3rd room which was a lower-level walkout and had this hideous nautical paper (sorry, but NOT me!) was a total beotch! I think they must not have primed the walls propery and it's moist down there (no ac), but it took DAYS to get it all off! We ended up having to do major repairs to the drywall because this stuff had become like - part of the sheetrock. I hope you fair better!
