Where do I go if I don't like punk music and I like lots of drinking, drugs, and sex. Where's my niche dammit?

3. No way, we're not being nearly hardcore enough in our crooked-edge philosophy
I'm not talking about an ethos where you simply discard the prohibitions against vice. I'm talking about people who embrace them fully. If straight edge says "say no to drugs" then "do drugs as you please" is an inadequate response. The proper correction is "say yes!"

9. I used to work in theatre
Now, I work for a very evil Republican in life insurance. It pays better.

My officemate and I say it's like being stuck on the set of Rush Limbaugh everyday.

8. Oh no, several problems there.
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 11:47 PM by JVS
1) it was nearly 40 fucking years ago and I can't time travel
2) I'd inevitably bump into the preachy hippy who thinks that drinking a quart of scotch and puking all over the place is a "real bringdown, man"
3) on a more abstract level, both the straight edge and the hippy embrace too much of an ethical system for their operations, which I find decidedly bad.

13. Hedonism.
not really a subculture as much as an ethos...there are hedonistic cadres of many certain subcultures. If you can conceptualize it in concert with hedonism, it almost certainly exists.

18. Shitkicker bars.
Of course, their music sucks and most of the people who go to them have an IQ generally associated with the stuff that grows at the waterline of infrequently cleaned toilets, so I don't recommend them. But they drink, smoke and fuck, and you'll never hear a punk rock song.

99% of straight edge kids wouldn't know any of the bands in any of the genres I mentioned.

You can try to start the hippie thing going again, if it ever really left. I hope you enjoy yourself - I sure did.

35. Opposite you say?
Let's see. You've gotta have the drugs and sex of course. "Punk" dress is right out - you're looking for not-black, and kinda nerdy. The musical opposite of three-chord punk rock would have to be long, complex and melodic.

Ah, here we go - this is perfect:
