Does anyone else remember 45 records on the back of cereal boxes?
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 02:49 PM by 1gobluedem
How weird that was. I thought it was beyond cool, though, even though the record only played about twice before getting too scratchy and we had to pile quarters on the needle arm to make it heavy enough to play the thing.

Edited for grammar.

3. Oh, yeah.
We were hungry for tunes, even the lousy ones off the cereal boxes.

4. I still remember when they were bitching about all the - gasp - SUGAR in kiddie cereals.
Funny how there were a lot less diabetics in those days than when they switched to high-fructose corn syrup.

My wife bought some Honey Comb a while back because she always liked it as a kid. I did too for that matter. I pulled a couple out of the box, popped them in my mouth, and thought for certain I was chewing on a frickin' sponge. :puke:

But to answer your original question: Yeah I do vaguely remember those records (born in '69), and I also remember when the little gifts in the boxes were actually fun to play with.

8. LOL

I listen a lot to the 70s channel on XM - some groups I just can't abide, and that's one of them. Jackson 5 brings an instant switch to the 60s.

It was "She Got A Nose Job". What a classic.

11. You used quarters?!
Big spender. :P

Actually, the one in the picture is a 33 1/3 (says right on it and it has the small hole instead of the big one - remember the little yellow adapters that snapped into the center of the 45's so it would fit on the spindle? The kids here have no idea what I'm talking about).

I remember 78's and 16's too - my parents had some of those.

13. I remember the ghost-story 45's available from one of the kiddie cereals.
There were four in the series, I think. I only ever had one. The kid who was the envy of the block was the one who had all four. That was a fad that lasted all of a few weeks, as long as the records themselves, evidently. I remember the one I had: "The Headless Horseman." Man, those recordings were low-rent!

14. Would these be the floppy kind ...
... that you had to put on top of another record to play?
