Facebook People - a question
Does anyone ever get friend requests out of nowhere from people they do not know at all?

12. Why do people want to do that in the first place?
I got a request like that and I know that I don't know the person. Why do it?

3. I play a few games on facebook...
so when I get friend requests from people out of the blue, they probably found me through the game and want me to join their 'team'...other than that, no...Spammy out of the blue friend requests are usually the domain of MySpace

The stalky nature of myspace is why I barely go over there any more.

30. I get the game "friend support" requests too, but I ignore them.
I don't want a bunch of names on my friends list of people I don't even know.

16. But you are GORGEOUS.
I am not fugly, but I am pretty plain looking...so to get unsolicited requests is kind of strange.

19. Yes
They seem to be mostly from friends of friends. I don't usually reply. I think sometimes when people are new to Facebook, they're a little over-eager to build their friend list fast. What puzzles me is when I send a friend request to someone I know and they ignore it.

20. Only like 5 ever...
and they all turned out to be DUers except one who turned out to be a friend from college who got married and no longer looked like she did ten years ago.

So...ultimately no.

29. Yes and expect to see a LOT more in the near future (scam alert)
myspace was almost, or some would say WAS, ruined by spamming and scamming. Now online phishers, spammers, "businesses", adverts, etc are gettting more and more sophisticated. For example, a phisher might get 1,000 people to add them to friends list and write an application that diverts clicks to various websites. Even just the wealth of personal information, everything from phone numbers to addresses to whatever, would be enough to make a phisher froth at the mouth.

Don't ever add anyone unverified, especially if they're some hot blond co-ed from a school you've never heard of.
