I think I have some kind of bug in my computer
Lately I have suspected that I have some kind of virus or bug in my computer. An unusually high number of pictures come up broken or blank, and now with growing frequency I seem to be getting a Microsoft error message requiring me to shut down the Internet.

I have an anti-viral program (Zone Alarm) that I hawkishly update and frequently run, as well as a firewall and Ad-Aware, which I also run and update once a day. They never seem to catch anything dangerously unusual. I regularly dump my temporary internet files and cookies.

Any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

2. images
A good first step is when it happens next immediately have someone else go to the same page. That way we can eliminate the website as the culprit. Did you disable Java scripting? I've seen recently some websites using Java code to display images. Avery good program, better than ad aware in my opinion is SpyBot Search and Destroy. http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
Its free.

5. Open up your CPU box (or pry up the keyboard if a laptop)
Spray in a 20-sec. burst of Raid Flying Insect Killer. Close it up & wait 6 hours, then reboot.

7. Free on-line virus scanner to try
Here is one I have used from Trend Micro called HouseCall.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

I use spybot as well and it seems to find spyware on a regular basis(once every 2 weeks or when my system is slow).

Thanks LibertyorDeath for the link to - AVG Anti-Virus. It is one I will look into further.

9. It is the worm
some of my friends that use M$ have gotten it, the message that requires shutting down the computer. Symantec has a program you can download to snuff it out. I forget the name, it was about a month ago. Didn't need it for the Mac.
