5. No surprise!
My husband is 5'7", I'm 5'2", both of us are on the lower end of healthy BMIs for our height. We have a king size bed, yet there never seems to be enough room in it, at least for me. Our pug, a toy dog, manages to hog the space between us. I say that I'm at the disadvantage, as my husband is a heavy sleeper, while I sleep lightly, and puggy has figured this out. Many nights, I find myself on the edge of the bed, with very little covers, thanks to the puggy, who is a heavier sleeper than anything I've ever seen. To get more space, I'd have to fully wake up and move 20 lbs. of unconscious fur and fat multiple times during the night. And when our yellow Lab decides to join us in bed, I'm literally hanging onto the edge. Thankfully, the Lab is a light sleeper, so all I have to do is nudge her, and she'll jump off the bed and get onto her mat on the floor.

6. Hahaha! That sounds just like us!

Our bigger dog Elmo is super considerate, and usually jumps off the bed before we even get in it! But Simon will sprawl out and somehow take up WAY more room than seems possible considering he is a scrawny 30-pounds!

Sounds like you should wake your husband up and have him relocate the pug to his side!

15. It would constitute domestic violence to wake him up
I have to vigorously kick him when his alarm goes off, he has to be at work at 7:45 am, in a county 30 miles/min to the south of where we live. Unfortunately, I've made my bed, I've had pugs since I was 7 years old. The current one was a very lucky stray, I mean how do you stray to a house where there is a current pug, and three other predecessors? I don't want to go all religious, but this one event, has affirmed my belief in a higher power. The current pug came when our other pug was going down quickly, health wise. When we had to put our beloved Bertha to sleep, our current girl gave us a lot of comfort, as the feeding, walking, lap-time routine was still the same. Although there were a lot of tears, there wasn't a huge empty hole there. There are a lot of recommendations about the time to take to replace a beloved pet, my advice is to have younger pet already in the house...no replacement, no change in routine. You can mourn, yet, your time is still taken up with responsibilities to your current little baby.

Now that Beulah is getting in her golden years, we've thought about getting another pug puppy...to keep Beulah active, as she's pretty healthy for her age and it would keep her physically and mentally active, and to help us not feel so empty when the time comes and Beulah goes over the rainbow bridge.

We also have cats, and in the same situation, when we lose one, we've been able to make our grief positive in caring for the others.

16. Aww, that is an amazing story!

I am glad for both you and Beulah that she wandered into your life. :)

My family all thought we were crazy when we got Simon (the puppy) -- but i think you're right about multiple pets. Elmo is only 5 so i hope we have many more years with him! But they are also just such good buddies -- they wrestle, nap, wrestle, eat, nap, repeat. But yeah, i don't think i'll ever be in a house without dogs. The dog i grew up with (a lab mix) lived to be over 15, and died years ago, but my parents house still feels a little empty. They want another dog but they travel a lot right now... someday i'm sure they'll get another though.

19. Yeah, you have to stagger them out
They all have their own little personalities. However, when one is lost, if you have others, they'll at least somewhat fill the hole. You'll still mourn and be totally heartbroken, but if you already have young'un in the house, your routine stays the same, and in our case, the young'un realizes they have a responsibility to help out. When our old pug was put to sleep, we brought her home, unwrapped her body, and let Beulah sniff, and she seemed to really get it. She was very subdued and more affectionate than usual for several days.

If I could do my life over again, one of my passions would be to study cat or dog psychology (I majored in human psychology, but it was pretty boring).

27. Do your dogs understand...
....that if they are of the general size and fluffiness of a couch cushion, then they will be used as such?

If so, no problem.
