if you were alive back then, you could not escape that sappy piece of crap. It was played endlessly. The media overkill of Dean's speech was even restrained by comparison. It was recorded fingernails on a blackboard and we were all trapped inside the classroom.

8. And endless interviews of Debby Boone |
|
It was just crazy people thought of her as the fair haired "traditional" American young woman. The only reason she got fame was because of her lowlife daddy.
I hated this song, 3/4 time schmatltzy POC.

3. Voting on principle for Barry Manilow - |
|
even though I know Bruce Johnston from the Beach Boys actually wrote that song -
and I could just as easily have voted for "Escape".

5. They all suck, but I voted Pina Colada Song because... |
|
...that light, fluffy song with the seemingly happy ending actually says "Hey! Ha ha! We're both shallow, disloyal assholes who deserve eachother at the cost of our individual self-esteem. Ha ha! Let's stay in our miserable, dysfunctional relationship, and do some more blow!

10. "Yellow Ribbon" beat all the others |
|
Because in addition to its gratingly upbeat, polka-like melody and mawkish, syrupy lyrics, the opening bars immediately bring to mind the image of a puffy-haired, mustachioed Tony Orlando decked out in a frilly lavender tuxedo. And that's its greatest sin of all.

12. What's wrong with My Ding-a-Ling? It's amusing. |
|
The other ones are so wretched though it's tough to choose. Coin toss between "Having My Baby" and "You Light up my Life". Vote goes to YLUML. Probably the worst song EVER.

16. This is like when they're trying to clear out a club |
|
Nothing like being in a hip hop club, they're trying to close, and people are still hanging out....then you hear:
"Yooooooooooouuuuuuuuuu light up my liiiiiiiiife'
People start leaving real quick.

21. They all suck, but I voted "Seasons in the Sun" because |

I can still remember how much that song sickened me when it was out. :puke:
"You're Having My Baby" was a close second, because that also sickened me, particularly when a friend of mine was gushing over how beautiful she found that sentiment. :puke:
The Pina Colada song also annoyed me to no end, but once I listened to the lyrics I found them somewhat amusing.
"Tie a Yellow Ribbon..." was also pretty annoying at the time, and it continues to annoy as people continue tying yellow ribbons.
I couldn't vote for "Disco Duck" because I mercifully don't remember what it sounded like. :-)
But yes, they all sucked.
