What music have you listened to lately? |
|
Today and yesterday, I heard -
CDs I own:
Karmina - Backwards Into Beauty (highly recommended!) R.E.M. - Accelerate (highly recommended!) Far Beyond Frail - Butterfly Sketches EP (highly recommended!)
Others:
David Archuleta - self titled (Just ok IMO. Some good moments, but his singing (often dispassionate IMO) sinks some of the hooks. There are quite a few by the books Idol type songs.)
Taylor Swift - more samples from Fearless (This CD is another example of great music in the mainstream. She's an even better storyteller than singer.)
Britney Christian - samples from Everything In Life (Songs are a little generic, but she overcomes that with a strong voice and catchy melodies. Worth buying.)
Butch Walker - Sycamore Meadows (was on a full album listening party. Softer than his other work but still excellent!)
Hinder - samples from Take It To The Limit (this modern rock is just not my kind of thing.)

This YouTube selection is an interesting update on an ancient French madrigal. I think it's really fresh sounding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m05aLoYLBzEAlso, this Kings Singers madrigal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nmpl4mZQgAc

11. Interesting - I could mistake the Jaguar Love singer's voice for a woman |
|
Definitely pretty unique, though. I kind of liked it. :hi:
I just found out that Kay Hanley released Weaponize, and she's a fave of mine - will add it to my Christmas wish list. I'll have to wait until next year for The Love Willows, Michelle Branch, Beautiful Small Machines, Kelly Clarkson, Bonnie McKee, etc. Any music on your Christmas wish list?

23. Yeah, Johnny's voice is interesting. |
|
One of my favourite (albeit slightly morbid) descriptions of his voice is that it sounds like a child being tortured, haha.
Jaguar Love's album is probably my favourite album this year, it's really good art punk type stuff.

Senses Fail, Five Finger Death Punch(FFDP for short), and H.I.M
All are pretty tough, and good...I've been in a good mood lately so its been predominately heavy/fast music the past few days.

17. Some new Capstan Shafts. All Girl Summer Fun Band's latest. |
|
I always listen to a bunch of the Mountain Goats when autumn rolls round. The Black Pear EP with Kaki King has been handy for that.
I've really been hitting that caUSE co-MOTION! record lately.
John Moen's solo record, Perhapst, is pretty awesome if you like quirky indie-pop.

26. Surprisingly enough...gospel music... |
|
I'm an agnostic (learning towards atheist more and more everyday) but for some reason, I love listening to gospel music on Pandora on my iPhone. I don't pay much attention to the words but the music, the sound of a big choir, the voices...love it.
